Explore the rugged landscape of the west with our desirable holidays to Devon

Devon is a county in the southwest of England, best known for its gorgeous coastlines, impressive grasslands and, of course, its delectable cream teas complete with lashings of clotted cream. A place that is best known for its fossil cliffs, medieval towns, and the English Riviera, a series of sunny beaches where the water is almost as warm at the Mediterranean, Devon is popular with both tourists and British holidaymakers alike. It's the perfect destination for those looking for some quiet respite set against a backdrop of Britain's most beautiful surroundings.

Discover hidden beaches and rugged moors

Devon's standout feature is without a doubt its varied landscape. From the gorgeous sandy beaches of Watcombe, Woolacombe and Blackpool Sands to the quaint harbour towns of Dunsford, Dartmouth and Totnes and the brooding landscapes of Dartmoor and Exmoor, there is plenty to explore. Grab your hiking boots and take long walks across the greenest terrains or enjoy a lie-down and lap up the ocean breeze with a trip to one of Devon's many beaches.

Explore Exeter

A cathedral city set in the heart of Devon, Exeter is best known for its academic and historical foundations. The newly refurbished university is one of its many standout features, but the cathedral and Powderham Castle are worth a wander too. Exeter is perfect for a small city meander, but you can also enjoy a day out at the races or take a quick train ride to take part in the 'Topsham Ten'; a pub crawl where you can trial a southwest favourite, cider.

Kick back with a cream tea

There is no British tradition held in higher esteem than the celebrated cream tea, an afternoon treat made up of a pot of freshly brewed tea alongside baked scones with a filling of cream and jam. A rivalry which will no doubt stand the test of time, the counties of Devon and Cornwall have long fought over the contents of a well-loved scone; in Cornwall, you spread the jam first and then the cream, but in Devon is it cream and then the jam. Live like a local and stick to the rules.

Settle into Salcombe life

Although Devon's harsher landscapes might attract the more outdoorsy traveller, there really is nothing quite like sipping on a cool glass of rose while relaxing at Salcombe Harbour. Salcombe is a popular harbour town best known for its impressive views, sailing prowess and yacht culture and is certain to impress.

Whether you are looking for some time spent by the sea or you are looking to explore everything else Devon has to offer, our exceptional discounts for families and couples will provide you with the perfect escape.

The food was really very good, that's worth noting. The friendliness of the staff is very good and they try very hard. The complex is very well maintained, especially the outdoor/green areas. The pool areas and the beach are also nice and you can always find a lounger on the beach - the pool is almost always full but we didn't use the pool anyway, with the sea right in front of the door. The distances are sometimes very long, so shuttles run all day long, which you can use free of charge if you want.

Buckland tout Saints hotel is a delightful old Manor House converted into a country house hotel that is hidden away in the beautiful Devon countryside of South Hams. We had a wonderful welcome that included a delicious cream tea. All the public rooms are wooden panelled with large open fireplaces. The standard of catering was excellent. We went for a much needed break and we left feeling that we had certainly achieved that. Thank you to all the team.

The Marco Pierre 3-Course Meal with wine / Antipasti platter was the highlight of the trip. Food was delicious and served in a penthouse with a panoramic view of the harbour, sea, and city. Central location makes it easy to enjoy Plymouth as well as travel to the rest of Devon and Cornwall.
