Devon is a county of largely unspoilt countryside, with beautiful rolling hills running down to the coastline, and charming villages and towns tucked away waiting to be found. This part of the British coastline is also known as the English Riviera, owing to its good weather – not something the rest of Britain in necessarily famous for, but along the Riviera you will even find palm trees! – and a series of picturesque harbour towns and villages including Paignton, Torquay and Brixham. This makes for a beautiful day's drive, stopping to enjoy the charms along the way. Turn away from the coastline and you will find beautiful countryside all around you. Devon : Exploring the outdoors for the weekend

If you love getting out and seeing the outdoors then Devon is just perfect. As well as being picture postcard pretty there are plenty of opportunities to get out exploring. There is the breathtaking Dartmoor National Park, and Devon is also home to the famous Jurassic Coast, with plenty of fossils to be discovered on the beautiful beaches. Although it is some time since anyone has uncovered a dinosaur, it just might be your lucky day! Walk along the striking cliffs and take in the view, or hire a bike and enjoy part of the Tarka Trail – named for the Edwardian novel Tarka the Otter, set in Devon. Friendly and helpful staff. A delightful building, charming room and good food. When a local road was temporarily closed, the staff were very helpful, printing maps with recommended routes.

Above all the friendlimess and quality of service, which is saying a lot above the superb location of the hotel with great views of the estuary and within a very short walk of the shops and centre of the beautiful town (especially beautiful out of season). Food is excellent if expensive.
