The English Riviera
Devon is a county of largely unspoilt countryside, with beautiful rolling hills running down to the coastline, and charming villages and towns tucked away waiting to be found. This part of the British coastline is also known as the English Riviera, owing to its good weather – not something the rest of Britain in necessarily famous for, but along the Riviera you will even find palm trees! – and a series of picturesque harbour towns and villages including Paignton, Torquay and Brixham. This makes for a beautiful day’s drive, stopping to enjoy the charms along the way. Turn away from the coastline and you will find beautiful countryside all around you. Exploring the outdoors

There is the breathtaking Dartmoor National Park, and Devon is also home to the famous Jurassic Coast, with plenty of fossils to be discovered on the beautiful beaches. Walk along the striking cliffs and take in the view, or hire a bike and enjoy part of the Tarka Trail – named for the Edwardian novel Tarka the Otter, set in Devon.
