Going on holiday in Granada

Allegro Granada 4*
Granada makes a fine destination throughout the year with attractions that change with the seasons. Peak tourist traffic arrives in summer, with crowds and raised prices from July to August. Temperatures during the height of summer can top 34°C. Beat the crowds and sweltering weather by travelling in May, June, September or October. The weather remains perfect, and the sights are far less busy. Several festivals make these months a treat, with Feria del Corpus Christi in June and Cruz de Mayo in May. Alternatively, check out Granada in winter, when the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountains host skiing activities.

Granada is a wondrous destination for all ages and travel groups. Couples will discover a sun-kissed, ancient city with romantic dining options and spectacular sunsets. Then, there are the splendid Arabian baths with massage treatments and soothing pool dips. Families can unearth the city's Moorish history with plenty of parks to explore, too. Many attractions are also free for under-12s to enter. Granada is surprisingly modern, with lively bars and clubs. The art scene is not to be missed, with street art by Granada's own Banksy: El Niño. Above all else, this is a culture vulture's dream, with rich historic sites from Albayzín to Alhambra.

How to get to Granada

Granada is served by an international airport: Federico García Lorca Granada Airport. However, it mostly deals with domestic flights, with quick connections to Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona. Visitors can also arrive by train. While there is no high-speed train through Granada, a long-distance railway connects with Barcelona and Madrid. Once you've arrived in Granada, you'll find the centre compact enough to traverse on foot. There's also a metro line that runs from the northern to the southern stretches of the city. Bus lines are also convenient. Driving is not recommended in the city centre, but it's the best way to explore the surrounding region.

Alhambra is one of Europe's finest Islamic buildings and the main reason tourists flock to Granada. First mentioned in the 9th century, the current palatial estate dates back to the 13th century. The location, outside the historic center of Granada (ie, away from the chaos, thankfully), but very well connected to the bus line with LAC.

For me, category and location of this hotel in Granada are its main features, since it is located close enough to the center (roughly 1 km) without having to enter the vehicle in the center of the city. Walking in 10 minutes access to all sites of interest and typical tapas. The features are those of a 4 star and the staff very friendly and helpful.
