Enjoy breaks to Germany at any time of year
Germany is the perfect destination for getaways in any season. Although winter in most of the country is harsh, the Christmas markets and snowy views make it well worth suffering the cold. In spring, taking a cruise down the Rhine is an excellent way to enjoy the nicer weather and blossoming scenery. Summer is ideal for a visit to Berlin, as the city seems to come alive once the colder months come to an end; parties are held on streets, people drink and eat in the parks, and music and laughter can be heard everywhere. In autumn, the changing colours of the foliage make Bavaria a stunning place to visit - you could even go to the legendary Oktoberfest beer festival in Munich while you're there.
Explore the land of fairytale castles and picturesque towns
Whatever time of year you choose to stay in Germany, there are many beautiful storybook towns waiting to be discovered. The Romantic Road in the south offers visitors the chance to explore lots of quaint towns and villages. You can see castles and history in this area too; it's home to Neuschwannstein Castle - an architectural delight that looks like it's been pulled straight out of Cinderella. More castles can be found further afield in the Rhine Valley, an area with lots of sights, attractions and food to enjoy. You can also visit one of the vineyards near the Rhine, and try tasting some of Germany's best wines.
Sample the local cuisine as you travel
Foodie travellers will not be disappointed when they visit Germany. Some may imagine German food to be bland, but it is far from it. As well as all the sausages and beer the country is well-known for, you'll also find some of the most delicious cakes in the world. Traditional cuisine varies slightly from region to region, with dishes such as potato dumplings recommended if you're visiting Bavaria, Rheinischer Sauerbraten (marinated roast beef) if you're near the Rhine and pickled herring sandwiches if you're in the north.
