Your Destination —
A lovely morning can be spent sailing around the volcanic islands in the warm and gentle waters of the Mar Menor. With a little extra time, you can even sail two seas in one outing, heading out into the Mediterranean for a look at the rocky coast of Murcia.
After returning to the harbour in Cabo de Palos, eat a traditional Murcian lunch of arroz caldero (fish stew with rice) and watch the fishing fleet come and go. Arrangements for a sailing trip can be made through the concierge and tailored to your requirements, from a boat you can sail yourself to one with a crew to attend to your needs.
For a perfect afternoon, take a stroll through the ancient streets and alleys of Cartagena, with its historic architecture. Then amble down to the port. There are plenty of waterside cafés where you can relax with a drink and watch the light fade during another beautiful sunset.
Cartagena is a Mediterranean city and naval station located in the region of Murcia, southeastern Spain. Before or after a seafood dinner in one of the restaurants on Cartagena harbour, take a walk up to Parque Torres at the top of the town. Here you can stroll in the beautiful gardens that surround the medieval Castillo de la Concepcion, and take in the wonderful view across this ancient walled city, particularly magical at night.
A visit to the Roman Theatre of Cartagena is a must! Considered one of the best archaeological finds in the region, the theatre demonstrate the important role that the town of Cartagena played in the history of Old Spain
The Interncontinental Mar Menor is located in a typically quiet, secluded area, away from the main hustle and bustle of the town and we would recommend that members who wish to explore more of the local area consider adding car hire to their booking.
