The small seaside town of Mataro lies 30km from Barcelona, and is a pleasant place to relax under the Spanish sunshine. The beach, promenade and pretty marina provide all you could need for relaxation - cafes restaurants and shops. 

The town centre contains some pretty and historic architecture such as the basilica of Santa Maria and Lauder Tower - the ruins of a typical Roman villa from the 1st - 3rd century AD. Modernism has also left its mark in Mataró, thanks to the legacy of architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, born in the city. His Coll i Regàs House is one of the emblems of the city. The iconic Gaudi architecture, museums and shops of Barcelona city centre are also easily reachable, should you wish for a busier day's sightseeing.
