Day 1 Malaga

Early morning sailing to Motril
Day 2 Motril for Granada
This morning arrive in Motril. Optional full day excursion to Granada, one of Europe’s most fascinating city, and the last Muslim bastion before it fell to the Christians in 1492. We will visit the architectural jewel that is the Alhambra, a series of spectacular palaces and gardens built in the 14th C by the Nazari Muslim dynasty. Later we visit the Cathedral with its Royal Chapel. Isabel and Ferdinand lie buried here. We shall also visit the Monastery of La Cartuja and many churches built by the Moors in the unique “mudéjar” style. In the afternoon we return to Motril. Overnight at sea to Porto Banus.
Day 3 Porto Banus for Ronda
Arrive in Porto Banus. Full day optional excursion to Ronda, 50 km from the coast, a city which retains much of its charm, full of history, particularly its old town and the nearby 18th century Puente Nuevo. The spectacular Feria Goyesca. Plaza de Toros, a museum now where visitors can stroll out into the arena. This is an excursion that also includes visits to the elegant cloistered 16th century convent and old Ronda, La Ciudad. Take a stroll from the leafy Plaza Duquesa de Parcent, which boasts a convent, two churches, to the toy town bell tower of the iglesia Santa Maria de Mayor. There will be enough time later to visit Marbella one of the most cosmopolitan European ports. Overnight in port
Day 4 Porto Banus
5 am sailing to Gibraltar
Day 4 Gibraltar
Gibraltar arrival in the morning. Optional half day excursion in the “ Rock” . From the Cable Car Base Station the cable car takes us to the Top Station perched on the summit of Gibraltar. Here at the Top Station your guide will point out the geography of this British colony. After this we will travel to the Middle Station and the sanctuary of Gibraltar’s older inhabitants, the Barbary Apes. They roam free around this station. Back to the coach for a short drive to Princess Caroline’s Battery and the entrance to the Great Siege Tunnels, a solid limestone carved system of tunnels. Then to the Gibraltar Museum with its huge display of artifacts. Overnight at sea to Cadiz.
Day 5 Cadiz for Seville
Leave port of Cadiz to drive inland for full day optional excursion to Seville, by all accounts one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, with a distinct mark of a blend of Moorish and Spanish art and culture. An optional excursion will take you you to the Cathedral, the Alcazar Palace and its lush Andalusian gardens, the Maria Luisa Park as well as the quaint district of Santa Cruz. Later in the evening we return to Cadiz and overnight in port
Day 6 Cadiz for Jerez de la Frontera
This morning there is the optional excursion to Jerez de la Frontera, with its famous wines, horse breeding and the flamenco dance. Your will be able to see the Alcazar, the cathedral and a “ganadería” , where bulls are bred for bull fighting. After lunch on board,there is an afternoon optional guided tour of Cadiz and Sanlucar de Barrameda. You will enjoy a guided visit of Cadiz; with its white and blue buildings and its wealth of history and culture. Later on at Sanlucar de Barrameda, you will visit a wine cellar renowned for its “Manzanilla”. Return to ship. Overnight at sea to Portimao – Portugal
Day 7 Portimao – Portugal
Optional half day excursion will take us to Silves, which was largely destroyed in the 17th century earthquake. A number of marvels at Silves, a centuries-old Moorish castle complex with an underground water reservoir, a 13th Century Cathedral on the site of a Mosque and a fine 15th century bridge over the Rio Arade. During this visit you’ll have time to browse the exhibits of the Museu Arqueológico. From Silves we travel into the Serra de Monchique to reach the picturesque city of Monchique. Monchique retains a 16th century charm about it while walking through the cobbled streets with small doorways housing a multitude of artisan shops. The town is overlooked by a 17th Century Franciscan monastery a 16th Century Parish Church decorated with “ajulejos”. Return to Portimao for a late lunch and early in the afternoon we sail overnight to Lisbon.
