Badajoz —

Halfway between the fields of Extremadura and Portuguese terrain, stands Badajoz. From the year it was founded in 875, Badajoz has been home to many different peoples, cultures and religions, fully preserving its historical charm, and has since become the largest city in Extremadura. Rich in cultural heritage, this city boasts a wealth of ancient treasures, in the form of its Alcazaba and Cathedral, in addition to other noteworthy landmarks. Visitors will find themselves just 15 minutes away from Portugal and in a superb location for discovering the other jewels of Extremadura, such as the old city of Cáceres, a World Heritage Site, or the historic Mérida, an important enclave of the Roman Empire on the Iberian Peninsula.
