The Mayan Culture reigned on the Yucatan Peninsula, on the South Eastern side of Mexico, enclosed by the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. It was in this area, where the Mayans reached their superior degree of development.

Nonetheless, the Mayan Civilization covered a vast extension, from Mexico's Southern Pacific Coast and all the way into Central America. Traces of Maya nomad settlements date back to 1500 BC. We distinguish mainly 3 Mayan periods of social and urban development: Nomad, Mayan Pre-Classical and Mayan Classical. 

These periods are relatively evident in their building techniques, their carved inscriptions on their pyramids, buildings and temples. The Mayans developed a structure of writing, using hieroglyphs; and so kept a record of Mayan findings in mathematics, architecture and astronomy.

DAY 1: UK- CANCUN
Arrival at the Cancun International Airport, welcome and transfer to the hotel.

Overnight at Krystal Urban 5*

DAY 2: CANCUN – CHICHEN ITZA – MERIDA
Breakfast at the hotel. Meet with your driver then departure for Chichen Itza. Declared as one of the 7 Wonders of the World, this site offers incredible and unique architectural examples, such as the Kukulcan Pyramid. Visit the archaeological site before heading back to magical Mérida in the afternoon.

DAY 3: MERIDA (free time)
Today you have the whole day at leisure to enjoy the surroundings. You may take your car and go to Celestún for a boat tour at this Biosphere Reserve, or with advance, you can book an excursion

DAY 4: MERIDA – UXMAL – CAMPECHE
Leave Merida and head south to Uxmal. This is an ancient Mayan city of the classical period, considered the most important Puuc style representative site and UNESCO World Heritage since 1996. 
As well as Chichén Itzá, this place will spark an interest and imagination about Mayan culture.

After this trip, you will continue your journey until you reach the city of Campeche -  with its capital city sharing the same name. This city was founded by the Spanish Conquistadores in 1540. 

Those interested in history will love that the city retains many of the old colonial Spanish city walls and fortifications that protected the city (not always successfully) from pirates and Buccaneers.

DAY 5: CAMPECHE – PALENQUE
On this day, you can choose to go on added excursions including a visit to Edzná whilst on route to the village of Palenque. The afternoon will be free time where our members can explore local and traditional restaurants close by.

DAY 6: PALENQUE
Enjoy an early breakfast and two nights in Palenque.
Here you will find an archaeological site (best to visit at 8am) plus some of the finest architecture, sculptures and carvings that the Mayas produced. 

Much of the history of Palenque has been reconstructed from reading the hieroglyphic inscriptions on the many monuments - only 10% of the site has been excavated, leaving more than a thousand structures still covered by jungle!

During this time you may also take the opportunity to drive to Welib Há waterfalls for a refreshing swim, not far away from Palenque. 

Overnight at Chian-Kah Resort Village

DAY 7: PALENQUE – CHETUMAL 
On your second day of stay in Palenque, our members will be up early ready for a long travel towards Chetumal. Have an on-the-route stop at the incredible archaeological site of Calakmul.

Today, Calakmul is located within a large 7,300-km2 biosphere reserve to preserve the site biodiversity flora and fauna. You will continue on your journey after Calakmu until you reach the capital of Quintana Roo state, Chetumal. A dinner at Forastero’s restaurant upon arrival is highly recommended it.

Overnight at Chian-Kah Resort Village

DAY 8: CHETUMAL – BACALA – TULUM – RIVIERA MAYA
This will be your last day -  with an included stop by the lagoon of the seven colour’s (the Bacalar lagoon), and Tulum, on your way back up north. Upon arrival at your end destination, guests will drop off of their vehicle and enjoy some free time for relaxation before departing for the UK.
