Day 1: Cancún

Go to the rental counter located in the terminal, and you'll be directed to the main offices where you can collect your vehicle. The rental agency will offer you additional insurance, so please note that they are sometimes very expensive.
An English-speaking guide will be waiting for you at the rental counter, and will help you with your procedures.

DAY 2: CANCUN - EK BALAM - X'CANCHE - VALLDOLID

The pyramids of the black jaguar ‘Ek Balam’
Depart for Ek Balam. Climb the steps of the pyramids to enjoy a breathtaking view
breath on the surrounding jungle. The small site and the visit will be especially fun for children.

Swimming in the forest at cenote X'Canche
After our lunch break, cycle from the entrance to the site (1.5 km, 20 minutes) for the cenote X’canche. You may be able to see the iconic Mayan bird ‘Toh’ with shimmering colours. Arrival at the cenote, and swim in this sacred space where you can snorkel, take a zipline or abseil.

Arrival in Valladolid.
The capital of the Mayan East: Valladolid
On your return from Ek Balam, drive to Valladolid, a peaceful town built in the sixteenth-century by Francisco de Montejo. The town contains the magnificent Franciscan San Bernardino of Siena convent. Enjoy the pretty pastel houses, tasting local dishes (we recommend the ‘longaniza’, a smoked pork sausage) and eating ice cream.

Day 3: Valladolid - Chichen Itza - Yokdzonot Cenote - Mérida

Chichen Itza, Mayan Wonder
Built by the Mayas then remodelled by the Toltecs, Chichen Itza symbolizes the unification of the two religious cultures. The largest archaeological site in Yucatán was the main religious centre in the peninsula at that time.
Swimming at Yokdzonot Cenote
After visiting Chichen Itza, nothing beats cooling off in a cenote. 20 km from the site is the cenote Yokdzonot off the beaten track
(possibility to swim). We suggest that you stop for lunch in
a restaurant located right next to the cenote.

Merida, the white city
Take the road to Mérida, capital of Yucatán. It is full of colonial-era elegance and historical monuments. Stop in one of the small squares to listen to the sound of a marimba orchestra. The craft market sells many souvenirs: 'huipiles' which are colourful embroidered women's tunics, panama hats, and Yucatec hammocks.

DAY 4: MERIDA - CELESTUN - MERIDA

The pink flamingos of Celestun
Celestun is a small fishing village. Board a motorboat to go around the lagoon. Discover the flamingo sanctuary and the mangrove channels. End the tour with a swim in the middle of the tropical forest.
Return to the centre of Celestun for lunch and spend the late afternoon, with your feet in the sand, tucking into a freshly grilled fish by the sea!
Note: The boat in Celestun must be settled on the spot. In the self-drive tour, this is not included in our services, unless a guide accompanies you for the day.
Return to Mérida at the end of the day.

DAY 5: MERIDA - CENOTE TOUR - UXMAL - MERIDA

Off the beaten track 'cenote tour'
Cenotes are natural pools of freshwater, which look particularly impressive when the sun shines on them. Pass by a typical Mayan market on the way. Explore two cenotes, and enjoy a refreshing swim in the middle of the forest.
Lunch with a Mayan family
Doña Patricia will open the doors of her family restaurant and teach you the secrets of the handmade tortilla. Discover the pottery studio, whose replicas of pre-Columbian Maya ceramics are recognized in museums around the world.
Conquering the city of Uxmal
Set off to explore Uxmal. Uxmal means 'built three times' in Mayan, but in reality it was built five times. The region is very dry, and the images of the god of rain, Chac, are everywhere.
Return to Merida.

Day 6: Mérida - Campeche

Explore the Forts of Campeche
After breakfast, head to Campeche, a city of pastel-coloured colonial-era buildings, declared a World Heritage Site in 1999. Campeche exudes charm in every street corner.
Take the time to stroll around the magnificent colonial port, visit Mayan ceremonial centres, walk down the 'malecon' (boulevard)
and explore the fort.

DAY 7: CAMPECHE - CHICANNA
Spedn the day exploring Campeche. Settle into your lodge near Chicanna, and visit the sites of Xpujil and Chicanna en route.

Day 8: Chicanna - Calakmul - Bacalar
Distance: 352 km
Journey time: 5 hours 45 minutes.
Early departure for the Calakmul site located in the state of Campeche, in a biosphere reserve where there are many jaguars. It's possible to observe wild animals like toucans, monkeys and pheasants wandering on the site in complete safety.

Note: 40 minutes return from Chicana to the entrance of Calakmul, and 1 hour 30 to arrive at Calakmul.

DAY 9: BACALAR
Distance: 212 km
Journey time: 2 hours 30 minutes
Leisure day at Laguna Bacalar. You may wish to kayak on the lagoon (not included), or go to the Azul cenote. We recommend a visit to Fort San Felipe which houses a beautiful museum of the history of the
city, recounting the many stories of pirates who plagued the region at
different eras. Spend a peaceful evening by the lagoon.
Night at Aires Bacalar, on the Bacalar village side. You'll be given a map outlining the best areas for public access to the lagoon.

DAY 10: BACALAR - TULUM
Free morning in Bacalar. Spend the morning around the Bacalar Lagoon. Go north towards Tulum, along the beaches of this Caribbean paradise.
Night at the Casa Don Diego hotel in Tulum, 5km from the beach. You'll have an air-conditioned room with a king-size bed.

DAY 11: TULUM - CANCUN
Leave the hotel 5 hours before take-off time for Cancún airport.
Return your vehicle to the counter of the rental agency and then check-in for your international flight.
