breath on the surrounding jungle. The small site and the visit will be especially fun for children.

Note: Admission not included, unless otherwise stated.

Swimming in the forest at cenote X'Canche

After our lunch break, cycle from the entrance to the site (1.5 km, 20 minutes) for the cenote X’canche. You may be able to see the iconic Mayan bird ‘Toh’ with shimmering colours. Arrival at the cenote, and swim in this sacred space where you can snorkel, take a zipline or abseil.

Note: Admission not included, unless otherwise stated.

Arrival in Valladolid.

The capital of the Mayan East: Valladolid

On your return from Ek Balam, drive to Valladolid, a peaceful town built in the sixteenth-century by Francisco de Montejo. The town contains the magnificent Franciscan San Bernardino of Siena convent. Enjoy the pretty pastel houses, tasting local dishes (we recommend the ‘longaniza’, a smoked pork sausage) and eating ice cream.

Night at Meson del Marques 4*.

Day 3: Valladolid - Chichen Itza - Yokdzonot Cenote - Mérida

Distance: 185 km

Journey time 3 hours 15

Chichen Itza, Mayan Wonder

Built by the Mayas then remodelled by the Toltecs, Chichen Itza symbolizes the unification of the two religious cultures. The largest archaeological site in Yucatán was the main religious centre in the peninsula at that time.

Swimming at Yokdzonot Cenote

After visiting Chichen Itza, nothing beats cooling off in a cenote. 20 km from the site is the cenote Yokdzonot off the beaten track
(possibility to swim). We suggest that you stop for lunch in
a restaurant located right next to the cenote.

Option not included, unless otherwise stated

Merida, the white city

Take the road to Mérida, capital of Yucatán. It is full of colonial-era elegance and historical monuments. Stop in one of the small squares to listen to the sound of a marimba orchestra. The craft market sells many souvenirs: 'huipiles' which are colourful embroidered women's tunics, panama hats, and Yucatec hammocks.

Doña Patricia will open the doors of her family restaurant and teach you the secrets of the handmade tortilla. Discover the pottery studio, whose replicas of pre-Columbian Maya ceramics are recognized in museums around the world.

Conquering the city of Uxmal

Set off to explore Uxmal. Uxmal means 'built three times' in Mayan, but in reality it was built five times. The region is very dry, and the images of the god of rain, Chac, are everywhere.

and explore the fort.
