Your Destination —
Bol, set on the southern coast of the island of Brač, is one of Croatia’s most enchanting seaside towns. Famous for its dazzling beaches and crystalline waters, it combines Adriatic charm with an authentic island atmosphere, where stone houses and cobbled lanes create an irresistible Mediterranean backdrop.
Must-sees:
- Zlatni Rat Beach: Also known as the Golden Horn, this ever-shifting sandspit is one of Croatia’s most iconic beaches.
- Dominican Monastery: A peaceful landmark overlooking the sea, housing a small museum with paintings and manuscripts.
- Vidova Gora: The highest peak of the Adriatic islands, offering panoramic views across Brač, Hvar and the Dalmatian coast.
- Bol Harbour: A lively waterfront lined with cafés, restaurants and boats, perfect for evening strolls.
Culinary culture:
Bol is a haven for seafood lovers. Enjoy freshly grilled fish, octopus salad and black risotto, paired with a glass of Brač’s famous Plavac Mali red wine. Don’t miss local olive oil, a prized product of the island, or a sweet slice of hrapoćuša cake made with walnuts and honey.
Dive deeper:
Sail from Bol to nearby islands such as Hvar or Vis, or take a boat to the Blue Cave of Biševo, where sunlight creates magical reflections. Inland, explore Brač’s centuries-old stone quarries and visit the village of Pučišća, renowned for its stonemasonry school. For active travellers, the island offers hiking, windsurfing, and cycling routes with breathtaking views of the Adriatic.
Good to know:
Bol is about one-hour from Split, reached by ferry to Supetar followed by a scenic drive across the island, or by catamaran directly in summer. The best time to visit is during the summer months (June to August), when the sea is warm and the town’s vibrant atmosphere is at its peak. The local currency is the euro (EUR).
