Escape to a place where time stands still

For those who want a break from the ever-changing nature of modern life, holidays to Dubrovnik offer a much needed sense of calm. The city is so well preserved that in 1979 it was awarded the status of a UNESCO world heritage site. Its cobbled streets and magnificent architecture have changed very little since it was founded in the 7th century, and the serenity that floats in from the Adriatic Sea breeze is almost tangible. It’s a city that’s somehow both peaceful and bustling.

Dubrovnik’s Old Town is known for its marbled streets and red-roofed houses, but it’s also home to some of the most exquisite Romanesque and Gothic architecture in the country, the beautiful Franciscan Monastery and its 14th century cloister serving as just one example. A visit to the striking Rector’s Palace will almost make you feel as though you’ve been transported back in time to the late 15th century as you explore the grand private chambers and halls. Today the palace houses the Cultural History Museum, allowing you to delve further into the city’s past. However, if history isn’t your strong point, then you can spend the afternoon people watching from one of the many bars or cafés that line the vibrant Old Town for a pleasant holiday to Dubrovnik.

Soak up the sun

While you could easily spend all day wandering through Dubrovnik’s intricate streets, the coastal city’s beaches are some of the most beautiful and pristine in Europe. The spotless, azure Adriatic Sea laps at the immaculate sands of Dubrovnik’s beaches, beckoning you to spend a day basking in a sunshine that’s not too hot but warm enough to merit a dip in the sparkling water. Banje Beach is the one closest to the Old Town and has the best view of the city’s walls, but if you’re more of a thrill-seeker, then Copacabana beach offers waterskiing and windsurfing.

Explore from above

There’s plenty to see on foot during your holiday to Dubrovnik, but the best view of those iconic terracotta-tiled roofs comes from the city’s cable car. It only takes around five minutes for you to be whisked up nearly 800 metres from the city walls to Mount Srd. From the plateau at the top, you’ll be treated to magnificent views over the city, its coast and the island of Lokrum. There’s also a restaurant next to the cable car stop where you can be sure you’ll get a meal with a view.

Sheraton Hotel was amazing, set in a beautiful bay - only 15 mins by local bus to Dubrovnik. Surprise birthday cake left in room which was lovely touch. Spa and all staff in both hotels were fantastic and very professional.

The staff in the Park hotel, Montenegro, were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable, the bed especially so,and it was good to have a sitting area in the room. It had an exceptional view and good facilities. On the whole the food was good and very plentiful... possibly too plentiful. The dining and lounge areas of the hotel were varied and comfortable. The Grand Park hotel in Dubrovnik was lovely, with friendly staff, good food, comfortable accommodation and a good location, close to local buses and the beach and walks.

Perfect location to be able to move both to the islands and the country or to visit Dubrovnik. We stayed in the superior sea view room and it is really worth the extra money for the bay view. Good cleaning.
