Top TV Chef Ian Swainson joined The Samling hotel from his role as Head Chef of the Michelin starred L’Ortolan restaurant in Reading. Last year Ian won the regional final of ‘ITV Britain’s Best Dish: The Chefs’. His menu is already receiving rave reviews. Ian uses the finest, freshest ingredients producing contemporary cuisine with a regional twist. According to the 2013 Good Food Guide “Swainson’s cooking shines with seasonal goodness and remarkable depth of flavour".
The restaurant itself offers food made from only the finest and freshest local ingredients. The restaurant guests find the ideas and lightness of touch emanating from the kitchen irresistible. For many guests it is the main reason they continue to return to The Samling so often.

Your Journey —
By Road
Leave the M6 at Junction 36 (South Lakes/Kendal). At the large roundabout, take the exit onto the A591 and continue on the main road through Windermere heading towards Ambleside. Approximately three miles after Windermere, you’ll see the lake on your immediate left and The Low Wood hotel on your right. About three hundred yards further on is a sharp bend, indicate right when you see the road sign showing this bend.
The entrance to The Samling is a very steep driveway on your right: continue up it and bear right to park at the front of the front of the house. Please do not attempt to turn left up the drive if you are travelling from the Ambleside direction.
