Your Destination

Tey Brook Organic Farm is a 400-acre mixed farm of livestock and cropping situated 6 miles south-west of Colchester, in the village of Great Tey at the confluence of the Roman River and the Tey Brook.

There are some lovely local pubs and great things to see, especially in the Colne Valley only a short bike ride away. Bikes and kayaks can be hired from local suppliers, with advance warning.

The site is a wonderfully secluded spot tucked away between an apple orchard and 20 acres of woodland with acres of space to roam free.  It is a fantastic spot to bring the children for a weekend in the countryside or to relax with a few friends around a campfire. Just 50 minutes outside of London, by train, yet nestled peacefully in a tranquil rural setting.

Great Tey is a small country village based in the heart of Colchester, Essex. The Village has a strong community feel.

Some of the most important events in British history have taken place in and around Colchester over the past 2000 years. The Romans, Saxons, Normans and Victorians have all left their mark here which you can discover today. But it’s not just history. Colchester today is a modern and fast growing town with many award-winning places to visit and eat. People love the shopping here too with its excellent range of small, specialist shops alongside all the big-name stores in a compact town centre bordered by the most complete Roman wall in the country.

A visit to Colchester Castle is now bigger, brighter and better than ever before, with brand new interactive displays. Explore the Roman vaults, have a go at building a Norman archway, or try your hand at excavating a Roman doctor’s grave (and much more besides!).

Browning Bros Glamping

The farm is not only host to livestock, vegetables and wildlife but also boasts 7 listed buildings which include a 15th-century farmhouse, a granary, wagon lodge and large thatched barn which forms part of a medieval hamlet.

The Colchester Archaeological Trust has previously excavated a Bronze Age burial site amongst other ancient remains in several of the fields.

Richard Browning is the 4th generation of his family to run the farm and began conversion to organic farming in the year 2000. His sons, Nat and Archie started up their own business in 2011; BrowningBros. who provide equipment for the events industry and host wild weddings and glamping from the farm.

There is an exciting range of quirky accommodation available to guests, ranging from impressive Tipis from North America to a beautiful handcrafted Mongolian Yurt.

The larger dwellings are perfect for families and friends, whilst the refurbished Grain Silo and Shepherd’s Hut both make for particularly romantic abodes for couples. All accommodation comes with a private firepit/BBQ grill,  table and chairs. Inside you will find a cosy double bed, furnishings and bedding, lighting and phone charging ports. Additional single mattresses are provided in some accommodation allowing space for up to four people to sleep comfortably under the stars. There is a large marquee on-site that provides covered space for dining.

Some services may incur additional charges, payable locally.

These dwellings are positioned at the far end of the site. If you are keen to enjoy your own company and have a little more privacy, whilst listening to the brook meander past, then this will be perfect.

The olive colour of the canvas makes it blend in beautifully to its surroundings in the meadow and the interior will take your breath away. The skylight allows you to truly fall asleep under the stars.
