Your itinerary in detail —
2 night safari
DAY 1: ARRIVAL AT SELOUS NATIONAL PARK → FULL-DAY GAME DRIVE
Leave the coast behind with an early transfer to Zanzibar Airport and a light aircraft flight to the vast landscapes of Nyerere National Park, formerly known as Selous Game Reserve. On arrival, head straight into the bush for a full-day game drive through one of Africa’s largest protected areas, where elephants move slowly through the miombo woodland and giraffes browse along the open plains. Expect long, quiet stretches between sightings, broken by the sudden presence of buffalo herds or a lion resting in the shade. As the light softens, return to camp for the evening at Africa Safari Selous.
- Domestic flight Zanzibar → Selous G.R./Nyerere National Park
- Full-day game drive
- Night in a Banda Bungalow at Africa Safari Selous 4*
DAY 2: GUIDED BUSH WALK & BOAT SAFARI
At first light, head into the bush on a guided walking safari, accompanied by Maasai trackers who read the ground with remarkable ease. Moving quietly through the landscape offers a different perspective — the scent of wild sage underfoot, the distant call of fish eagles, and fresh tracks pressed into the sand. Return to Africa Safari Selous for lunch and a rest during the warmest hours of the day. In the afternoon, drift along the broad channels of the Rufiji River on a boat safari, where hippos cluster in the shallows and crocodiles lie motionless along the banks. As the sun drops, the river turns copper and the bush grows quiet once more.
- Breakfast, lunch & dinner included
- Bushwalk with a professional guide, accompanied by Maasai
- Boat safari on the Rufiji River
- Night in a Banda Bungalow at Africa Safari Selous 4*
DAY 3: DEPARTURE FROM SELOUS NATIONAL PARK → ZANZIBAR
Wake to the soft light of morning over the savannah and enjoy breakfast at the lodge before checking out. A short transfer brings you back to the airstrip for your flight north. From the window, the winding course of the Rufiji River fades into the wide green expanse of the reserve below. On arrival at Zanzibar Airport, a driver meets you for the transfer back to your hotel, bringing your brief but vivid safari to a close.
- Breakfast included
- Domestic flight Selous G.R./Nyerere National Park → Zanzibar

If conditions allow, your guide may lead you towards the natural hot springs hidden within the bush, a striking geological feature in this wild landscape. The journey itself is the highlight, with long stretches of untouched terrain and the chance to encounter elephant, buffalo, and predators along the way. Your destination —
Tanzania
Tanzania offers a wealth of natural beauty and captivating wildlife, providing a remarkable backdrop for those seeking the ultimate safari experience. From the soaring peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro to the pristine beaches of Zanzibar, this East African gem showcases diverse landscapes and abundant wildlife, making it a must-visit for any adventurous traveller.
Must-sees:
- Serengeti National Park: Famous for the Great Migration, this park provides one of the most iconic wildlife experiences.
- Ngorongoro Crater: A UNESCO World Heritage site, it is a natural wonder, home to a rich ecosystem and diverse species.
- Tarangire National Park: Known for its stunning baobab trees and elephant herds, this lesser-known gem is a peaceful retreat from the more crowded parks.
Culinary culture:
Tanzanian cuisine reflects the country’s diverse heritage, blending African, Indian, and Arab influences. Ugali, a staple made from maize, is often served with rich stews or grilled fish from the Indian Ocean. Street food such as samosas and mandazi (sweet fried dough) offer delightful local snacks. The coastal areas offer fresh seafood, with spicy coconut dishes adding an exotic twist to the flavours.
Dive deeper:
Beyond the safari, immerse yourself in Tanzanian culture. The Zanzibar Archipelago is renowned for its history, where influences from Arab, Indian, and Portuguese settlers can be explored in the narrow streets of Stone Town. The island is also famed for its spice plantations, which offer guided tours where you can learn about the island’s aromatic produce. The Maasai people, one of Tanzania’s indigenous tribes, offer an authentic cultural experience, with their traditional dances, crafts, and vibrant attire.
Good to know:
The Tanzanian Shilling (TZS) is the local currency, though US dollars are widely accepted. The best time to visit is during the dry season, from June to October, when wildlife sightings are at their peak. Zanzibar is a year-round destination, but the coastal areas may see more rain during the long rains (March to May). Flights to Tanzania typically land at Dar es Salaam or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
