Your Itinerary in Detail —
Day 1-5
Day 1: On arrival at OR Tambo International Airport you will be met by a representative from Sense of Africa, South Africa who will assist you to collect your rental vehicle at the airport. Then, drive to your first hotel.
Day 2: After breakfast, drive to the Drakensberg where the highest peaks (up to about 3500 m) in South Africa are found. The trip takes about 4 hours. Check-in at the hotel and enjoy the beauty of the place!
Day 3-4: You have two full days to explore this magnificent region, words fail to describe all this natural beauty! The best is to walk one or more paths in order to become one with the untouched nature. The Drakensberg has several national parks such as Royal Natal National Park and Golden Gate Highlands National Park. Decide for yourself which gems you absolutely do not want to miss!
Day 5: After breakfast, head back to Johannesburg, a drive which will take around 4 hours.
Day 6-8
Day 6: Leave the city behind and set off for the Pilanesberg National Park, which will take around 2.5 hours. Of all the reserves in the country, this one is perhaps the most accessible. Located in the ecologically rich transition zone between the Kalahari and the Lowveld, this vast area is home to big game in a malaria-free environment.
Day 7: Enjoy another full day in the national park. Have you spotted the Big 5 yet? For many safari enthusiasts, this is always an exciting challenge! Go in search of a lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard, and you can return home as an experienced adventurer.
Day 8: After a last breakfast, it is unfortunately time to head back to Johannesburg airport to return your rental car and fly back home.
