After collecting the hire car – set off on the stunning Route 62 – the worlds longest wine route. The drive takes you stunning mountains vistas, famous wine growing regions, through verdant valleys full of fruit farms, natural hot springs and little faming towns – stuck in a bygone era. The scenery changes as you get to the Klein Karoo – a semi desert landscape perfect for your next adventure.

A full day to explore this oasis town in the Karoo – known as the Feather Capital of the world. Plenty of things to occupy your time today – from a visit to an ostrich farm, a visit to the impressive Cango Caves or perhaps a cave dive with a man eating crocodile to name but a few. Make sure to try the local delicacy Ostrich steak in one of the many lovely restaurants in the town.

For those wishing to there is the option of getting up before dawn to see a meerkat family awaking and preparing for the day before they set off in search of breakfast. Head off leaving the small karoo as you make your way through the swartberg mountains through rugged landscapes where eagles soar and animals seek shade from the desert sun. Continue on to Graff Reniet.

Morning to explore Graff Reniet – the 4th oldest town in South Africa and known as the Gem of the Karoo. Time permitting take a drive and visit the Valley of Desolation before continuing over lovely hillside passes and long open roads south to the Zuurberg Mountains on the doorstep of Addo Elephant National Park.

Day 6: Addo Elephant National Park

Full day guided game drive in the national park in search of the wealth of animals. The open sided vehicles allows uninterrupted photographic opportunities of all that you come across along the way. (Included). Dinner at the hotel (Included)

Depart today as you head to the world famous Garden Route. The stunning drive allows you plenty of photo opportunities so allow enough time to meander along – perhaps stopping at the Tsitsikamma Forest, Storms River Bridge or why not try your hand at bungee jumping off the Bloukrans bridge before heading to the stunning town of Knysna.

A full day to explore the surrounds. Knysna is set on an estuary – open to the Indian Ocean but brimming with aquatic birds, oyster farms and water based activities, Head along the garden route and stop enroute – perhaps taking in an elephant sanctuary, a township tour, whale and dolphin spotting before returning to Knysna to overnight.

Set off today through forests and lakes along the garden route before continuing west along the highway. Explore lovely coastal towns such as Mossel Bay before visiting Africa’s true southernmost point – Cape Aghulas before continuing on towards South Africa’s Whale Coast and overnight near the gorgeous cliff top town of Hermanus.

Day 10: Hermanus to Cape Town via Franschhoek (approx. 160 km / 2 hours 15 minutes)

Take some time to visit Hermanus – the best place to watch whales from the shore (June – October). Even out of whale season the town is a hive of activity and well worth a visit. We would recommend driving along the coastal road towards Cape Town – stopping at Stoney Point to visit the penguin colony there before crossing over the Hottentot Mountains and back to the ‘Mother City’ Cape Town. Drop the car off at the depot and make your way to the upmarket suburb of Sea Point for your last night. Perhaps explore nearby Camps Bay and its wealth of restaurants overlooking the gorgeous beach.

Day 11: Cape Town

Last morning perhaps revisit the waterfront for souvenirs – maybe enjoy a hop-on hop-off bus experience around the city, take high tea at iconic Mount Nelson Hotel before being picked up from your hotel and taken back to the airport in time for your overnight flight back to the UK .
