Faro, the capital of the Algarve, is located in the far south of Portugal and is a city rich in history and architecture, with valuable Moorish and Roman ruins dating back to the 13th century. It is home to the famous Ria Formosa lagoon, a nature reserve of more than 17,000 hectares and a stopping point for hundreds of bird species during migration periods in spring and autumn.
