Ouarzazate —

Located in the south of the Moroccan High Atlas, Ouarzazate is a famous for being the gateway to the Sahara desert. From its enormous Taourirt citadel, which houses a 19th-century palace, it is possible to contemplate the rugged landscape of the region, which has served as the setting for several films. To the northwest is the reddish earth fortified city of Ait ben Haddu. The rocky Todra Gorges are to the northeast. A highway winds southeast through the lush palm groves of the Dra Valley to the desert.
