Badi Palace
The sumptuous palace built by Ahmed El Mansour (1593) for official receptions and audiences, was also known as "The Incomparable." It deserved its nickname: Europe's best craftsmen and most luxurious materials were used for the 360 rooms. It is said that the Carrara marble used in the palace was bought for its weight in sugar.
It took ten years to demolish when, in the 17th century, the Alaouite sultan Moulay Ismail decided to decorate his palaces at Meknes from this one. Only the ochre walls remain, within which the annual Moroccan Festival of popular music takes place. In the southeast pavilion is the pulpit of the Koutoubia, which was made in Cordoba in the 17th century.
