At night the square really comes to life as people navigate toward the exotic aromas and the entertaining sights. As the evening darkens, the hustle bustle of activity rages on, the exotic music seems louder and becomes almost hypnotic.
The Kasbah, surrounding the Djemaa El-Fna, portrays a calmer, less abrasive atmosphere. It is home to the Royal Palace, also the former El-Badi Palace and the Saadian Tombs. This naturally creates a safer atmosphere and cleaner streets. The Kasbah has its own little bazaars (Souikas), food stalls, restaurants and riads for travellers to enjoy.
Your Hotel —
The riad Al Jazira is essentially three houses in one! The focal point of each, as with all Riads, is the “courtyard.” Upon entering Al Jazirah the first courtyard one meets is adorned with an enormous banana tree; the long green fronds of which boldly declare Abdellatif Aït Ben Abdallah’s signature theme: “ pure, natural elegance!”
The second courtyard is overlooked by a majestic gallery and the third, the “pièce de résistance,” encompasses an inviting blue pool in the centre of a beautiful open lounge, the “bhou,” where you can sit or recline upon a choice of comfortable sofas - like a true pasha! Dating from the 17th century, this beautiful riad with its luminous white and uncluttered spaces and perfect harmony of line and proportion is truly seductive.
