Sandakan Safari Adventure 4 days / 3 nights —
Day 01 Sandakan / Turtle Island
Get met by our representative at Sandakan Airport and transferred to the jetty for your boat ride to Selingan Turtle Island Park. The journey to Turtle Island will take approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. On arrival, register at the Turtle Island Parks HQ and check into your chalet. After lunch at the cafeteria, enjoy some free time; swimming or snorkeling. After dinner, you’ll wait for the rangers call you to observe turtle laying eggs in the wild. You’ll be able transfer the eggs to the Hatchery and if there are any young turtle hatchlings, you’ll have the opportunity to observe the release of the turtles to the sea. Overnight at chalet. *Meals: Lunch / Dinner
Day 2 Sepilok Orang Utan / Kinabatangan, Sukau
0700 depart island for Sandakan. After breakfast, drive for approximately 30 minutes to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Proceed to the free roaming area feeding platform. 1000 hrs enjoy the feeding of Orang Utans. At this centre, observe man’s closest relative ‘the Orang Utan’ being rehabilitated to become wild in their natural habitat and experience a walk in the Tropical Lowland Dipterocarp Forest of Borneo. 1100 hrs depart Sepilok and transfer to jetty in Sandakan. Continue for approximately 2.5hrs drive through rustic countryside studded with villages. Take a short boat transfer to Borneo Nature Lodge. Time for orientation and check-in. Relax by the river before embarking by boat up-river at 1600hrs along Sabah's longest river, Kinabatangan with opportunity to view wildlife and birds in its virgin mangrove and rainforest habitat. Search for some of the primates species including the amazing Proboscis Monkeys as they settle down on treetops. Settle down for dinner and overnight stay at Borneo Nature Lodge or similar. *Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
Day 3 Oxbow Lake / River Cruise / Sukau
Wake up by the calls of gibbons and hornbills. Early morning, take a river trip to the Ox-Bow Lake to observe wildlife and experience the early morning river ambience of the longest river in Sabah. Return to the lodge for breakfast for some free time. After lunch, enjoy another river cruise to search for more wildlife. Dinner and overnight at Borneo Nature Lodge. *Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
Day 4 Sukau – Gomantong
Depart early morning and visit the Gomantong Cave, famed for its edible birds' nests. Take a 15 minute boardwalk to the opening of Semut Hitam cavern and explore the cave system. Afterwards, return to Sandakan for lunch. In the afternoon enjoy a city tour, visit water village, central market and the Buddhist temple. Transfer to the airport for an evening flight departure to Kuala Lumpur. *Meals: Breakfast / Lunch
Your Safari Accommodation
Accommodation here is basic but comfortable - the chalets exist so that visitors can stay and witness the night-time arrivals of the magnificent turtles as they come ashore to lay eggs. There is air-conditioning, and the shared bathrooms and toilets are well-kept and clean. There is a relaxed restaurant too.
Nestled along the riverbank of Kinabatangan River lies Borneo Nature Lodge - an eco-friendly resort, offering home comforts while immersed in nature.
The 12 lodges are constructed from recyclable materials and are fully air conditioned - all electrival items run on solar power. Every effot has been made to make minimum impact on the surrounding environment, so while the shower and basin water are treated, rainwater is collected and used in the toilets. In honour of the indigenous people, many of the decorative items you find here are authentically hand-made.
The lodge also has a restaurant, giving guests a choice to dine indoors or al fresco.
