We love —
- Waking up to sweeping Dolomite views from a design hideaway perched 1,080 metres above Bolzano, where the mountain air and the quiet do most of the work.
- Spending evenings at Frieda's Fine Dining, where head chef Christian Reiterer's five-course tasting menu reveals itself dish by dish.
- Unwinding in the Belessere Spa, where the infinity pool, bio-pool and panoramic sauna all look out over Bolzano and the mountain peaks beyond.

Your dining choices
This is a half board stay. Your breakfast and evening meal will be served in the main restaurant (excludes drinks).
The main restaurant serves an imaginative evening menu built around South Tyrolean and Italian produce — nettle gnocchi, homemade ravioli, dishes that move between hearty alpine and light Mediterranean depending on the season. The kitchen has been recognised by Falstaff, La Cuisine and Feinschmecker.
For special evenings, Frieda's Fine Dining offers a refined five-course tasting menu with a surprise element — the dishes are revealed only when served. The BelBar & Bistro keeps things informal through the day, with homemade apple strudel, savoury bites and a carefully chosen selection of craft beers and organic wines.

South Tyrol —
Perched high above Bolzano in the heart of the Italian Alps, South Tyrol is a region of rare contrasts — where Germanic and Italian cultures meet against a backdrop of dramatic Dolomite peaks, medieval castles and sun-drenched vineyards. One of Italy's most distinctive destinations, it combines mountain wilderness with refined cuisine, world-class wine and a deep-rooted tradition of alpine hospitality.
Must-sees:
- Bolzano: South Tyrol's elegant capital, with its arcaded medieval streets, colourful weekly markets and the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology — home to Ötzi the Iceman, the 5,300-year-old mummy discovered in the nearby Alps.
- The Dolomites: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this extraordinary mountain range offers some of the most dramatic scenery in Europe, from sheer rock faces and jagged peaks to alpine meadows and glacial lakes.
- Castel Roncolo: A remarkably well-preserved medieval castle perched above Bolzano, known for its rare secular frescoes depicting courtly life in the Middle Ages.
- Lake Caldaro: A warm, shallow lake in the heart of the South Tyrolean wine route, surrounded by vineyards and ideal for swimming, sailing and cycling through the surrounding countryside.
- Merano: A graceful spa town with a mild microclimate, ornate promenades and a long tradition of wellness and thermal bathing, set against a backdrop of snow-capped peaks.
Culinary culture:
South Tyrolean cuisine reflects the region's dual identity — hearty alpine traditions alongside the warmth of Italian cooking. Expect hand-rolled spinach and ricotta pasta, slow-braised beef with horseradish, and speck — the region's prized dry-cured ham, aged in mountain air. The wine scene is equally impressive: South Tyrol produces some of Italy's finest whites, from crisp Pinot Grigio to aromatic Gewürztraminer, best sampled along the scenic Wine Road between Bolzano and Merano.
Dive deeper:
South Tyrol rewards those who venture beyond the main towns. Hike through the Alpe di Siusi, Europe's largest high-altitude alpine meadow, or follow the ancient irrigation channels known as Waalwege through orchard-covered hillsides. In winter, the region transforms into one of the Alps' most celebrated ski destinations. At any time of year, the cable cars above Bolzano — including the Ritten, Mölten and Vöran lines — offer quick access to high-altitude villages and panoramic walks far from the crowds.
Good to know:
South Tyrol enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine per year, making it one of the sunniest regions in the Alps. Summer brings warm temperatures ideal for hiking and cycling, while autumn is harvest season — the vineyards and apple orchards are at their most vivid from September to October. German, Italian and Ladin are all spoken throughout the region.
