Olbia
Discover Sardinian culture in Olbia. Olbia is an important harbour town that has overlooked a beautiful bay since Roman times and is an unmissable place to start your stay in Sardinia.
Situated on the Tyrrhenian Sea, the city is rich in architectural treasures and a fascinating history. Take the time to stroll through the old town and be enchanted by the beauty of the Roman Baths, Pedres Castle and the famous archaeological museum.
What to do during your stay:
- La Maddalena: A national park with a series of islands where you can stroll through picturesque streets or visit the old harbour
- Bargagia and Orgosolo region: These are the central areas of Sardinia, where you can drive through the mountains and see traces of antiquity and barbarian culture through murals and myths
- Lounge on beaches around Olbia, such as those of Cala d'Ambra or Capriccioli or the Costa Smeralda
Cagliari
On the south coast of the island, the capital Cagliari offers numerous treasures such as a 13th-century cathedral, an elegant palazzi, enchanting museums and a lively nightlife in the summer months.
Spend a few days soaking up the sun and relaxing on a sun lounger on the beach.
What to do during your stay:
- Monte Urpinu: one of Cagliari's largest parks, from the top of which you can enjoy a marvellous view of the Gulf of Cagliari and the city
- Flamingos: drive along the coastal road towards the south-west and admire the lagoons populated by flamingos
- The town of Nora: one of the most important archaeological sites from Roman times in Sardinia, home to a magnificent Roman theatre, thermal baths, temples and the precious mosaics of the patrician villas
- Bronze Age settlement: Drive to Barumini to visit "Su Nuraxi", a UNESCO World Heritage Site from the Bronze Age
- The panoramic road between Porto Teulada and Chia, known as the "Costa del Sud" offers lovely views
Oristano
On the 12-night round trip, you will stay in Oristano for a few days before travelling on to Alghero. Oristano is a university town with elegant streets full of shops, pretty squares, lively cafés and good restaurants.
Oristano will enchant you with its ancient history and medieval origins, which the historic centre still bears witness to today.
What to do during your stay:
- The Sinis Peninsula: a beautiful marine reserve. The peninsula is known for its breathtaking views.
- Cabras, one of the lagoons on Sinis: Throughout the day you can hear the sounds of the many cormorants, herons, falcons, kingfishers and pink flamingos that live there.
- Bosa: an enchanting village with a historical sa Costa district where colourful houses cover the slopes of the Serravalle hill, crowned by the 12th century Malaspina Castle.
- The Biomarine Park of Capo Marrargiu and the nature reserve of Badde Aggiosu and Monte Mann: one to visit for avid birdwatchers or lovers of nature walks.
Alghero
Alghero in the north-east of the island is famous for its inhabitants who have retained their Catalan language, earning it the nickname of "la Barceloneta" - the little Barcelona.
The narrow streets of the old town are full of shops specialising in the production of red coral, one of the most valuable types of coral in the world. Stroll through the cobbled streets and alleyways of the traditional centre before heading north to the beaches of Lido and Maria Pia.
What to do during your stay:
- The Neptune Caves on the Capo Caccia headland: just 20 km from Alghero, this cave is in a beautiful location by the sea. To reach the entrance, you have to descend a staircase with no less than 654 steps carved into the rock.
- Castelsardo: a charming seaside town by the sea that has preserved its medieval fortress structure.
- Aggius: a picturesque village with beautiful old granite stone houses.
- Stintino and Pelosa beach: Pelosa beach features soft white sand and a calm sea. Next door is Pelosetta, where you can see a small island with an Aragonese tower (dating from 1578). From a "terrace" on the tropical beach, you can enjoy a unique view of the island of Piana and the Asinara National Park.
