Lapland offers a huge variety of activities during the winter. Besides the traditional cross country and downhill skiing, there are exciting snowmobile rides, dog sledges and reindeer safaris for the more adventurous in this majestic destination. 

Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland in northern Finland, and is known as the "official hometown of Santa Claus". Home to Santa Claus Village, a year-round Christmas themed attraction, this is heaven on earth for festive fanatics. Besides the Christmas festivities, Rovaniemi is also a great springboard from which to explore the Ranua Wildlife Park and the Arkitikum Science Museum. You will also get to venture over to Norwegian Lapland with a fabulous visit to Kirkenes.

Day 1: Arrival - Rovaniemi
Welcome to Finland – the Land of a thousand lakes. Upon arrival to Rovaniemi, the capital of the Finnish Lapland, you will make your own way to your hotel.

Lapland is as close as reality gets to those who dream of a winter wonderland. Contrasts are a key factor in the allure of Lapland where 24-hour sunlight in the summer replaces the dark winter days. The hustle and bustle of towns and ski resorts is just minutes away from the peace and quiet of the wild wilderness.

Overnight in the Scandic Rovaniemi Hotel /Sky Ounasvaara Hotel or similar with breakfast included. 

Day 2: Rovaniemi - Reindeer Farm & Santa Claus Village
In the morning, enjoy breakfast at your hotel and the morning at leisure. At a specified time, your tour-escort will pick you up at a hotel reception and take you to the traditional Reindeer farm. Feed a reindeer and hear the most interesting stories about them from the local herders. Here you will be able to feed a Reindeer, hear stories about them, and enjoy a short sledge drive! 

Continue to Rovaniemi and if time allows you, visit the Santa Claus Village. Santa will be expecting you at his official office if you want to pay him a visit or send a post-card with the official stamp of Santa Claus. Stroll around the village to enjoy the atmosphere, have a coffee in one of the many shops or visit the souvenir shops in the village. Free time for lunch (not included).

Tonight you can choose to add an optional Northern Light excursion - hopefully the weather gods are on your side and you are blessed with clear skies and optimal weather conditions for this phenomenon.

Day 3: Rovaniemi – Saariselka - Optional Activities
Breakfast at hotel will be followed by free time for optional activities (Snowmobile or Husky Safari). Continue north towards Saariselka in the late afternoon (260 km), crossing the Arctic Circle and check into your next hotel. The rest of the evening is free for exploring this beautiful northern Finnish Lapland resort of Inari-Saariselkä. The unique northern countryside, national parks, lake areas, rivers and highland fells offer a wealth of opportunities for year-round travel. In winter, the Northern Lights dance across the sky up to 200 days a year. 

Overnight in Holiday Club Saariselkä Hotel or similar with breakfast included. 
Day 4: Saariselka – Kirkenes - King Crab Safari 
After breakfast at your hotel, take an early departure towards the small town of Kirkenes (270 km), located northeast in Northern Norway, close to the Russian border. Kirkenes is known as the capital of the Barents Region and the gateway to the east. 

Enjoy a King Crab excursion upon arrival, where you will learn how to catch crab and about local places of interest. Learn how king crab was domesticated and spread in the Barents Sea. If you catch a crab, you will be able to enjoy the meat for dinner! Special waterproof clothing, soft drinks and crab meat for lunch are included. 

The motor boat will leave the berth five minutes walk from the centre of Kirkenes. Before starting the trip, a safety briefing will be carried out. When you reach the fishing area your guide will dive and try to catch crabs of sufficient size and quantity for dinner. As the crabs are being cooked, you will get to enjoy a talk and film about underwater life in the Barents Sea. 

Choose to visit the famous attraction of Kirkenes Snowhotel, a hotel built from scratch every year and open between December - April. Even though the temperature inside is a constant -4 C, the beds are warm and comfortable with reindeer hide! 

Overnight at Thon Kirkenes or similar with breakfast included. Today also includes a crab lunch during your tour.

Day 5: Departure
After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy some last minute shopping for Viking souvenirs. You will then transfer to the airport on your own accord for your departure flight back to the UK.

Your Optional Excursions
The Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, are possible to be observed in the Polar zone of the world. Our location on the Arctic Circle gives us the best possibilities to try and see them. Our guide will drive you out of the city reaching the perfects spots offering us the best open sky vision to enjoy the Lappish picnic hopefully under the Auroras. Transfers by car or bus. Duration: 3 hrs approximately. Included: Transfers, sausage and pastry, hot drinks and guiding.

Rovaniemi: Snowmobile Safari on Day 3

This snowmobile adventure offers fantastic opportunity to learn how to master the art of driving a snowmobile. During the safari we stop for a break to enjoy hot drinks and the silence of the wilderness. Duration: 2 hrs approximately. Children will be pulled in sled by a guide. Included: Winter clothing, snowmobile instructions and snowmobile safari 2 persons per snowmobile, driving time approx. 1.5 hours, hot drinks with biscuits, guiding.

Kirkenes: Snowmobile Safari Kirkenes on Day 4

Discover the wilderness of Kirkenes as we head into the remote hills surrounding the town, where darkness improves our chances of catching the aurora borealis. Duration: 2 hrs approx. Included: Warm clothing (overall, boots, balaklava), helmet and security instructions. Departure: 21:00 incl. transfer from/to hotel.

Kirkenes: Northern Lights Safari on Day 4

Embark on this incredible Northern Lights safari by bus. A knowledgeable guide will check the latest magnetic forecast and decide whether to take you by minibus towards the Russian border or in the opposite direction toward the Finnish border. Duration: 2 hrs approximately. Included: Small snack and warm drink. (Departs 21:00 incl. transfer to/from hotel).

Kirkenes: Snow Hotel Visit on Day 4

Pick-up/drop-off from hotel included. Snowhotel Kirkenes, Norway, opened for the first time in 2006 with 8 rooms and a small icebar (and a reindeer). 20 dreamlike rooms uniquely carved by master ice sculptors from around the world. Every year we sit down to create a new theme and new motifs for our Snow hotel. Sometimes we like to try something new, but you will always find the Nordic touch in our carvings, with inspiration from both Norwegian and Sami folklore, fauna and fairy tales.
