Jukkasjärvi
The classic winter activities on offer aim to immerse you in the amazing surrounding scenery, such as dog sledging, snowmobiling and fireside dinners in the wilderness. Aside from these thrilling activities, it's also worth paying a visit to Jukkasjärvi's Sámi church, parts of which date from 1608, making it the oldest surviving church in Lapland. Known locally as “Jukkas", this tiny village is a true Winter wonderland, most famed for its unique Icehotel.
Tromsø
Tromsø is situated in the centre of the Northern Lights zone and is, therefore, among the best places on earth to observe this natural phenomenon that has been drawing visitors for decades. The gateway to the Arctic and the capital of northern Norway, Tromsø also has many cultural sights and excellent restaurants guaranteeing you an exciting stay. Visitors to Tromsø are often surprised to find such a vibrant and cosmopolitan city so far north – here you are a staggering 320 km inside the Arctic Circle!
Tromso is the home to the world’s northernmost University, a beer brewery, a Cathedral, a Glassblowing hut, a Botanical Garden and an Electronic Music Festival. The city is surrounded by snow-topped peaks and glass-like lakes, providing spectacular scenery and great skiing, with evenings often bathed in the glow of the Northern Lights. In wintertime, rides in reindeer-driven sleighs, dog sledding, ice fishing and snowmobile trips followed by traditional Sami meals in lavvus or Sami tents will provide life-long memories. Book today to discover the land of Midnight Sun and Polar Nights.
Rovaniemi
Rovaniemi is the capital city of Lapland in northern Finland, and is known as the 'official hometown of Santa Claus'. Home to Santa Claus Village, a year-round Christmas-themed attraction, this is heaven on earth for festive fanatics. Breathe in the purest air in Europe and dive into a country where 70% of the territory is covered with forest areas - this is a true escape from the everyday.
Thanks to the city’s proximity to the Arctic Circle (just 6km away), the city is the perfect place for a magical wintry escape. Catch the incredible spectacle of the Northern Lights, and explore the Arctic Circle Hiking Area, a diverse trail network where you can admire rapids and aapa mires, a complex landscape of wetlands.
Besides the Christmas festivities, Rovaniemi is also a great springboard from which to explore the Ranua Wildlife Park and the Arkitikum Science Museum. While you might have a spectacular winter break in mind, the summer is the time to experience the unique spectacle of the Midnight Sun - between the 6th June-7th July, the sun never falls below the horizon, meaning even more time for activities like horse riding, hiking, and jet skiing!
