Your destinations

Cairo

A mesmerizing fusion of ancient wonders, bustling markets, and modern energy, Cairo is a city that pulses with history and life. Home to the last surviving wonder of the ancient world, the Egyptian capital offers a journey through time—from the towering Pyramids of Giza to the medieval streets of Islamic Cairo and the lively cafés along the Nile.

Must-sees:

  • Pyramids of Giza & the Sphinx: No trip to Cairo is complete without standing in awe before these iconic monuments, over 4,500 years old and still shrouded in mystery.
  • Egyptian Museum: Home to the legendary treasures of Tutankhamun, this vast collection of ancient artifacts provides a fascinating look into Egypt’s pharaonic past.
  • Coptic Cairo: Discover a different side of the city in this serene quarter, home to the Hanging Church, the Coptic Museum, and the Ben Ezra Synagogue.

Culinary culture:

Egyptian cuisine is rich, flavorful, and deeply rooted in tradition. Try koshari, a beloved street food made of lentils, pasta, and spiced tomato sauce, or ful medames, a slow-cooked fava bean dish often enjoyed for breakfast. Freshly baked baladi bread pairs perfectly with dips like tahini and baba ghanoush. For a sweet treat, indulge in basbousa, a syrup-soaked semolina cake.Tea culture is strong in Cairo—enjoy a glass of karkadeh (hibiscus tea) or a classic mint tea in a traditional café.

Dive deeper:

For a different perspective of Cairo, take a felucca ride on the Nile at sunset, drifting past the city’s skyline. Explore the City of the Dead, a vast necropolis with a fascinating blend of history and daily life. For a modern contrast, visit Zamalek, an upscale island district filled with art galleries, trendy cafés, and lush gardens. Finally, if you have time, venture to Saqqara, home to the Step Pyramid, the oldest pyramid ever built.

Good to know:

Cairo is a city best explored with patience and curiosity. Traffic is intense, but Uber and taxis are the easiest way to get around. The local currency is the Egyptian pound (EGP), and while many tourist spots accept cards, cash is preferred in markets and smaller shops.

Cairo is lively year-round, but visiting in the cooler months makes exploring more comfortable. The shoulder season (March-May and September-November) offers warm and sunny days, with June-August hot and dry. Seek the sparkling waters of your hotel pool, icy cocktails, or the refreshing air-conditioning of your room between sunbathing and exploring.

Luxor

A captivating blend of timeless grandeur, vibrant culture and riverside charm, Luxor is a city where the past breathes through every stone. Once the heart of ancient Thebes, it invites travellers to wander among colossal temples, royal tombs and avenues of statues that echo with history. Along the Nile’s gentle banks, traditional feluccas drift by while bustling souks and lively streets reveal the city’s enduring spirit.

Must-sees:

  • Valley of the Kings: Step into the resting place of Egypt’s greatest pharaohs, where richly decorated tombs reveal dazzling scenes of the afterlife, including the famous tomb of Tutankhamun.
  • Karnak Temple: Spanning over 200 acres, Karnak is a vast realm of columns and carvings where centuries of devotion still echo in stone.
  • Hatshepsut’s Mortuary Temple: Carved into the cliffs at Deir el-Bahari, this striking terraced temple pays tribute to one of Egypt’s most remarkable rulers.

Culinary culture:

Luxor’s food scene blends Upper Egyptian traditions with timeless favourites. Savour tagine-style stews slow-cooked with tender meat and vegetables, or feteer meshaltet, a flaky layered pastry that can be sweet or savoury. Fresh Nile perch, often grilled and served with herbs, is a local highlight. Baladi bread remains a staple, best torn and dipped into tahini or spicy dips. To cool down, try sugarcane juice, pressed fresh on the street, or sip a chilled glass of karkadeh, the ruby-red hibiscus tea beloved across the south.

Dive deeper:

See Luxor from the water with a sunset felucca ride, where the golden light dances across the Nile and the West Bank hills. Wander through the quiet streets of the village of Gourna, where tradition and daily life unfold beside ancient tombs. For a glimpse of Egypt beyond the pharaohs, visit Luxor’s bustling souks, filled with spices, textiles and hand-crafted souvenirs. If time allows, take a short trip to the temples of Abydos and Dendera, two of the most beautiful but rarely explored sites in all of Egypt.

Good to know:

Luxor is best explored at a slower pace, with most sights divided between the East and West Banks of the Nile. Taxis and ferries make crossing easy, though many visitors also enjoy cycling through the quieter West Bank villages. The Egyptian pound (EGP) is the local currency, and cash is handy for souks and smaller cafés. Summers are extremely hot, so the cooler months from October to April are ideal for sightseeing.

Hurghada

Nestled on the stunning shores of the Red Sea in Egypt, Hurghada is a top destination for sun-seekers, divers, and culture enthusiasts alike. Originally a small fishing village, it has blossomed into a thriving resort town with a vibrant atmosphere, making it a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and exploration.

Must-sees:

  • Giftun Island: A beautiful island just off the coast, perfect for snorkelling, swimming, and enjoying pristine beaches.
  • Hurghada Marina: A modern and luxurious marina offering shopping, dining, and scenic views of the Red Sea.
  • Old Hurghada (Downtown): Explore the traditional heart of the town, with its lively bazaars, mosques, and a taste of authentic Egyptian life.
  • The Nile Cruise: Take a scenic cruise along the iconic Nile River and explore Egypt's historical wonders, including the Valley of the Kings and the temples of Luxor.
  • Desert Safari: Experience the vast Egyptian desert with thrilling jeep rides, camel treks, and the chance to enjoy a traditional Bedouin dinner under the stars.

Culinary culture:

The culinary scene in Hurghada reflects Egypt's rich cultural heritage. From fresh seafood caught straight from the Red Sea to traditional dishes like Koshari (a hearty blend of lentils, rice, and pasta) and Fattah (a delicious meat and rice dish), there’s something to satisfy every palate. Don’t miss the chance to sip on mint tea or enjoy freshly baked baklava for dessert as you watch the sunset over the water.

Dive deeper:

Hurghada is renowned for its incredible diving and snorkelling opportunities. With crystal-clear waters and vibrant coral reefs, the area offers some of the best underwater experiences in the world. The Brothers Islands and Sharm El Naga are famous dive spots where you can swim with exotic fish, see colourful coral gardens, and perhaps even spot a sea turtle or two.

Good to know:

Hurghada is easily accessible via Hurghada International Airport, with a wide range of accommodations, from all-inclusive resorts to boutique hotels.

This sunny destination enjoys a year-round tropical climate, making it ideal for both winter sun or a summer getaway. The shoulder season (March-May and October-December) offers warm and sunny days, with June-September hot and dry. Seek the sparkling waters of your hotel pool, icy cocktails, or the refreshing air-conditioning of your room between sunbathing and exploring.
