Your suggested 7-night itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive in Dubrovnik

Arrive at Dubrovnik Airport and collect your rental car before driving about 45 minutes to Slano, where you’ll settle in at the Admiral Grand Hotel 5*. Enjoy some free time for a first swim or a leisurely seaside dinner. Overnight in Slano.

Day 2: Dubrovnik

Drive to Dubrovnik (around 45 minutes) to explore the UNESCO-listed old town. Walk along the city walls (best early in the morning), visit the Rector’s Palace and the Franciscan Monastery. After lunch on a sunny terrace, take the cable car up Mount Srđ for panoramic views over the Adriatic. Return to Slano for the night.

Overnight stay at Admiral Grand Hotel 5*.

Day 3: Dubrovnik ⇄ Elaphite Islands

Today, embark on a boat trip to the Elaphite Islands, Koločep, Lopud, and Šipan, where charming villages, hidden coves, and crystal-clear waters invite you to explore. Swim in turquoise lagoons, stroll through olive groves and pine forests, or simply relax on quiet beaches far from the crowds. Alternatively, enjoy a "slow travel" day on Slano’s shores with kayaking, paddleboarding, or a rejuvenating spa session.

Overnight stay at Admiral Grand Hotel 5*.

Day 4: Dubrovnik ⇄ Pelješac Peninsula & Ston

Day 5: Dubrovnik → Perast

Depart for Montenegro and the charming village of Perast (2.5–3 hours depending on border crossing). Consider stopping in Cavtat, an elegant seaside town, or Herceg Novi at the bay’s entrance. Your destinations

Croatia

Nestled between wooded mountains and rocky coastlines, Croatia is an increasingly popular European gem. Its diverse landscapes, from rugged peaks to idyllic beaches, offer a stunning mix of natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. The country's charm lies in its blend of ancient cities, pristine national parks, and majestic islands.

Must-sees:

  • Dubrovnik, the 'pearl of the Adriatic', with its fortified Old Town and stunning coastal views
  • The Plitvice Lakes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, featuring cascading waterfalls and turquoise waters
  • The historic city of Zadar, known for its Roman ruins and the unique Sea Organ, an architectural marvel

Culinary culture:

Croatia’s cuisine is as diverse as its landscape, influenced by both Mediterranean and Central European flavours. The coastal regions boast fresh seafood, with dishes like black risotto and grilled fish taking centre stage. Inland, wild game, truffles, and olive oil are staples, while the wines, particularly those from Istria, offer a perfect complement to every meal. Be sure to try a glass of Malvazija, a local white wine, and sample the famous Pag cheese.

Dive deeper:

While the more famous destinations like Dubrovnik and Split attract many visitors, consider venturing into lesser-known areas. The town of Rovinj in Istria, with its Venetian architecture and quaint harbour, provides an authentic slice of Croatian life. For a more tranquil escape, explore the Korčula island, often overlooked but offering peaceful beaches and charming medieval towns.

Good to know:

The local currency is the Euro, and the country enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. The peak tourist season runs from June to September, with the best time to visit being late spring or early autumn. Public transport is reliable, with ferries connecting the islands to the mainland.

Montenegro

Nestled in the heart of the Balkans, Montenegro is a hidden gem, offering a mix of natural beauty and historical charm. From its rugged coastline to its dramatic mountain landscapes, this small yet captivating country invites you to explore its diverse offerings, from ancient towns to scenic vistas.

Must-sees:

  • The Bay of Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where mountains meet the Adriatic in a breathtaking display of natural beauty
  • Kotor Old Town, a medieval gem with its Venetian architecture, museums, and charming cafés
  • The historic town of Perast, home to beautiful baroque palaces and scenic views over the Bay of Kotor

Culinary culture:

Montenegrin cuisine reflects its varied cultural influences, with Italian, Turkish, and Slavic flavours merging to create a distinct gastronomic experience. Fresh seafood is abundant, particularly in the coastal regions, where dishes like grilled fish and black risotto take centre stage. Inland, hearty meals of lamb and wild boar are complemented by local wines and rakija, a traditional fruit brandy.

Dive deeper:

For a more immersive experience, explore the stunning landscapes beyond the main tourist spots. The small town of Herceg Novi, with its cobbled streets and old fortifications, offers a slower pace of life. Alternatively, venture into the Durmitor National Park, where rugged peaks, glacial lakes, and dense forests provide a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and those seeking solitude in nature.

Good to know:

The currency in Montenegro is the Euro (EUR), and the climate varies from Mediterranean along the coast to continental inland. Summer months (June to September) are the busiest for tourism, while spring and autumn offer milder weather and fewer crowds. Transport around the country is easy with buses, while ferries connect key coastal towns.
