Your Destination

Home to the European Parliament and a hub for businesses, you’d be forgiven for thinking Brussels is no more than a bureaucratic capital - but behind its modern exterior lie historic charms, indulgent cuisine, and quaint attractions. A good place to start your exploration of the city is the Grand Place, a UNESCO World Heritage square lined with opulent guildhalls and the imposing Town Hall, deemed to be one of the most beautiful squares in Europe.

With no fewer than 80 museums in the Brussels area, culture-lovers will feel right at home in the Belgian capital. Visit the Oldmasters Museum for an extensive dive into Flemish masters, or explore the world of Belgian comics at the Belgian Comic Strip Centre. After a morning of museums, take a break at one of the city’s homely cafes and indulge in some classic Belgian waffles!

Other popular attractions in the city include the memorable 17th-century Manneken Pis statue, and the ulta-modern Atomium, where visitors can get a birds-eye view of the city from 92m high. In the evening, make sure to try some of the city’s famous beer - there are plenty of cosy bars perfect for a tipple, and why not pair your beer with some of the city’s finest frites?

Entry Requirements

You must ensure you have a valid passport to travel on.

If your passport describes you as a British Citizen, you do not need a visa to enter Belgium. For non-British citizens, you should check the current entry requirements on the website of the Foreign Ministry and if necessary, confirm with the Belgian Embassy.

Health

For information about important health advice and any vaccinations required please visit www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice and https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/countries

If vaccinations or other preventive measures are required, you will need to visit your health professional at least 8 weeks before your trip. In the event that you are referred to a medical facility for treatment, you should contact your insurance/medical assistance company immediately.

Please note that passport, visa and health requirements can change. It is every traveller’s responsibility to ensure they have a valid passport, any required visas, and all the necessary vaccinations/health requirements as well as adequate insurance.

Brexit

If you are travelling to the EU, the UK government recommends that you have six months left on your passport on the date of your arrival to an EU country. You should also check when your passport was renewed.

If you renewed a 10-year adult passport before it expired, extra months may have been added to your passport’s expiry date. These extra months over 10 years will not count towards the 6 months that must be remaining. The UK Government has published a website tool to check the validity of your passport under these rules: https://www.passport.service.gov.uk/check-a-passport

You can renew your passport online or by going to a Post Office with a Check and Send service: https://www.gov.uk/renew-adult-passport/renew

If your passport does not meet the criteria for third-country nationals, you may be denied entry to any of the Schengen area countries.

Please visit https://www.gov.uk/guidance/passport-rules-for-travel-to-europe-after-brexit for further information.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

As of July 10th 2020, the UK Government has approved that travel to Belgium is allowed without the need to quarantine upon return, thanks to an 'air-bridge' agreement. Belgium has been listed as a 'green/amber' destination and is therefore considered safe enough to visit without requiring 14 days of self-isolation upon reentering the UK. Tourists choosing to book stopover flights may not be permitted to return without quarantining if the country they stop off in is not also listed as green/amber by the UK Government. Please note that this information is constantly being reviewed and may be subject to change.
