Your itinerary in detail —
Arrival in New Orleans
Touch down in New Orleans before collecting your hire car, before hitting the road and heading to your first hotel for check in.
Take a ride on a classic streetcar through the oak-lined Garden District, grab a beignet and strong coffee at the legendary Café du Monde, and wander the lively streets of the French Quarter. As the sun sets, Bourbon Street turns up the volume — neon lights, live music, and an atmosphere that’s uniquely New Orleans.
Our suggestions:
- The French Quarter
- Garden District
- Frenchmen Street
- Mississippi River
Vacherie
Swap the city buzz for moss-draped oaks and riverfront history with a detour to Vacherie, a quiet town that punches above its weight in Southern charm. It's best known for its iconic Oak Alley Plantation, where a canopy of 300-year-old oaks leads you to the grand antebellum Big House. Use Vacherie as a jumping-off point to explore other historic plantations nearby, soak up Louisiana’s rural heritage, and take in the slow, scenic rhythm of the countryside.
Our suggestions:
- Laura Plantation
- Oak Alley Plantation
- Mississippi River
St. Francisville
On your journey to St. Francisville, roll into Baton Rouge, Louisiana’s laid-back capital, for a quick cultural fix - swing by the Old State Capitol, a Gothic Revival stunner that looks more like a castle than a government building. Then get back on the road North to St. Francisville, a sleepy riverside town that oozes Southern charm. With its moss-draped trees, historic homes, and easy-going pace, it’s the kind of place where you linger longer than planned. Whether you're here for the antebellum architecture, old plantations, or just the peaceful scenery, St. Francisville is a quiet highlight of the Deep South.
Lafayette
Continue on to Lafayette, the cultural centre of Acadiana, a region renowned for its Cajun and Creole heritage. This lively city is celebrated for its vibrant culture, flavourful cuisine, and unique attractions like the Centre culturel acadien and the grand Cathédrale St-Jean-l'Évangéliste. Located in the heart of South Louisiana’s French-speaking region, Lafayette is often called the "happiest city in America," thanks to its welcoming atmosphere and rich traditions.
Houma
Head into the heart of Louisiana’s bayou country, a vast expanse of swamps and wetlands stretching across 2,500 square kilometres of tranquil, untamed landscapes. Your destination: Houma. This quiet town, tucked about 90 kilometres southwest of New Orleans, is a living testament to Cajun culture. With its scenic views and deep-rooted ties to the waterways that surround it, Houma offers an authentic experience of life in Louisiana’s bayous. It’s a place where traditions run deep, and the pace of life is as slow and steady as the waters that flow through the land.
After your stay in Houma, head back to New Orleans to return your hire car and board your homebound flight.
