Today, the American Queen Steamboat Company© recreates the same sense of wonder, excitement and inspiration with all the convenience and comfort of modern luxury aboard one of the largest and most elegant riverboats in the world, the American Queen®. Traveling in the wake of legends, guests are transported to an era of leisurely and romantic travel.

Itinerary 1: Memphis, Tennessee - Alton Illinois (2nd July)

Uniquely American experience!  Blues & BBQ can be easily identified as cherished Southern staples & are just 2 of the fabulous highlights you will encounter as you journey from lively Memphis to welcoming St. Louis.

Celebrate the birth of a nation aboard a genuine national treasure, the iconic American Queen, certainly a rare treat. Before you embark on your river journey to the charming ports of authentic America, relish your time in Memphis as the city will be abuzz with patriotic festivities, live music and local vendors.

Explore the many attractions at your leisure or opt for a premium shore excursion tour through the city. Once boarding begins, it is time to celebrate American Queen style! Delight in a fabulous pre-fireworks dinner and then grab a patriotic-inspired cocktail and head up to the top deck where you will be treated to unobstructed views of the city’s grand fireworks display against the backdrop of the beautiful Memphis skyline.

As a special tribute to this uniquely American voyage, Lewis Hankins will enhance the onboard celebration with his highly acclaimed one-man show bringing to life the literary legend Mark Twain.

Day 1-2: Memphis, Tennessee
Your journey begins with a deluxe hotel stay in downtown Memphis. The evening is yours to venture out and explore the city's famed eateries, unique boutiques and lively arts and entertainment scene.

Day 3: Memphis, Tennessee
Explore Memphis before boarding your steamboat at 5pm.

Day 4: River Cruising
Gain insight into our nation’s history and heritage through the stories, facts and fables related by our onboard Riverlorian.

Day 5: New Madrid, Missouri
Relive scenes out of the battle of New Madrid, site of the Cherokee Trail of Tears crossing.

Day 6-7: Paducah, Kentucky
Observe elegant displays at the National Quilt Museum highlighting the colorful rebirth of quiltmaking.

Day 8: Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Visit the Old Bridge Overlook and Park for spectacular vistas of the river.

Day 9: Chester, Illinois
Affectionately referred to as the "Home of Popeye," this colorful city will enchant you with its fun pop culture atmosphere and charming Popeye Character Trail.

Day 10: St. Louis, Missouri
After disembarking at 8am, spend a leisurely day exploring local attractions such as the Gateway Arch and Anheuser-Busch Brewery.

Mark Twain's Mississippi River - Set out on a vacation steeped in the history, culture & traditions that define America.

An American literary icon – visit Mark Twain’s hometown of Hannibal, Missouri from where much of his inspiration for his stories of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn is derived. Witness his words and wit brought to life by expert tribute artist Lewis Hankins.

Delve deep into the life and work of Samuel Clemens through special daily presentations from special guest speakers Cindy Lovell and Henry Sweets, executive directors of Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum in Hannibal, Missouri and Mark Twain House & Museum in Hartford, Connecticut respectively. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to share the Mississippi River with Mark Twain.

Day 1-2: St Paul, Minnesota
Your journey begins with a deluxe hotel stay just south of Minneapolis in Bloomington. Take the Light Rail to downtown Minneapolis or use the hotel skywalk to access the many attractions located in the illustrious Mall of America, the largest mall in the United States.

Day 3: Red Wing, Minnesota
Explore the surrounding area before your transfer to the American Queen.

Day 4: Red Wing, Minnesota
Enjoy breathtaking views of Minnesota and Wisconsin bluffs from Memorial Park and Bush & Main Street’s shopping district.

Day 5: La Crosse, Wisconsin
Take a stroll along the inviting Riverwalk and through Riverside International Friendship Garden.

Day 6: Dubuque, Iowa
Experience this town’s unique flavor from Cable Car Square to the Smithsonian-affiliated National Mississippi River Museum.

Dining aboard the American Queen is as decadent as it is delightful.  The steamboat's award-winning culinary teams take full advantage of each region’s diverse bounty of fresh ingredients to prepare uniquely exquisite dishes while our gracious, staff charms you with friendly, attentive service so that you may enjoy each meal in a most relaxed atmosphere.

Your first decision each morning: whether to relax in bed with a cheerful breakfast tray of freshly brewed coffee and piping hot beignets, linger in the elegant dining room, or enjoy the informal atmosphere of an alternate venue.

Choices are equally abundant for lunch. Make it as light or as hearty as you wish, sampling from an extensive buffet in the Front Porch Café  or enjoying traditional service in the main dining
room.

The nightly five-course dinner in the American Queen’s elegant J. M. White Dining Room showcases the varied cultural and culinary influences of this vast nation. Inspired by the American Heartland and Southern heritage, each dish is a celebration of flavor.

Flights: The flights included are with either a scheduled or no-frills airline and are subject to live availability and prices can change. Transfers: Shared transfers are included between the hotels & ship only.

Meet & Greet

If you are driving to the airport in the UK, and book our package including flights, you may wish to add our Meet and Greet service. Take the hassle out of airport parking and have an official representative take your car on arrival, and it will be waiting for you on your return.

This can be added at the next stage of booking process where available.

Your Contract

Travel Documents

Once the booking process is complete, you will receive an automatic confirmation email from Voyage Prive detailing your chosen travel arrangements.

Your official ATOL receipt and booking confirmation issued by the Tour Operator will follow within 5 days.

We will send all documents out as early as possible (subject to full payment being received) but you should receive all your documentation at least 10 days prior to departure. Generally, travel documents are sent via email however, in some cases they will be sent by post.

If you have booked Meet & Greet, you will receive a separate voucher for this via email.
