Maine

Backed by 1,530-foot Cadillac Mountain, the quaint town of Bar Harbour was the playground of America’s most illustrious 19th-century families, including the Vanderbilts and Rockefellers. See the stately Victorian mansions they summered in, tour the clapboard shops, sample Maine lobster or explore the forests, mountains and wild shores of spectacular Acadia National Park. Moosehead Lake, the state's largest body of water, is located in the heart of the Maine Highlands and is a perfect place for fishing, hiking, getting out on a boat or going on walks.

New Hampshire

Large expanses of wilderness, quaint towns, high peaks and curious wildlife. New Hampshire in New England is encompassed by outdoor activities and spectacular landscapes. Meet the Moose and Black Bear along part of the Appalachian Trail, discover the Lakes Region that has a plethora of water sports, fishing and gentle sitting by the shore. Visit Portsmouth and Concord, two of the more notable towns in New Hampshire.

Rhode Island

During the 19th century, some of the towns in Rhode Island, including Newport, served as the summer playground for the rich and famous. Residents displayed their fabulous wealth in the form of palatial estates overlooking the Atlantic. Today, these extraordinary and meticulously maintained homes line the city's famed "Mansion Row" and are a must-see for any visitor.

Vermont

The state of Vermont is synonymous with skiing in the winter, due to its many peaks, as well as being one of the major producers of maple syrup. Known for its vast natural landscapes, Vermont boasts more than 100 19-century covered wooden bridges, acres of mountain terrain, beautiful hiking trails and a plethora of activities. The biggest draw its many lakes, including Lake Champlain, perfect for a spot of boating, camping, fishing or kayaking.

We suggest: Mount Mansfield, Jay Peak, Camel's Hump, Green Mountain and Finger Lakes National Forests, Shelburne Museum, ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain, Smugglers Notch State Park and Mt. Philo State Park.

Your Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival into Boston
Flight for Boston. Pick-up your car at the airport and start your adventure. Visit the main city of New England and the historic heart of the United States. You will discover a rich cultural city at, for instance, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Observe the different architectural styles or stroll on the little streets of the historic centre and its numerous museums. Night in Boston Hampton Inn & Suites Crosstown Center (or similar)

Day 2: Boston 
Enjoy a full day dedicated to discovering the city of Boston. Home to the University of Harvard, wander down the 2.5-mile-long path known as the Freedom Trail, and pass by 16 locations significant to the history of the United States. Night in Boston at Hampton Inn & Suites Crosstown Center (or similar)

Day 3: Boston - Salem - Kennebunkport (160km / 3h30)
Make your way up to the north where you will discover wonderful beaches and craggy cliffs. Stop in Salem for an insight of their famed witch trials, then move onto Gloucester and Rockport Harbour. Take a short crossing through New Hamsphire at Portsmouth, before reaching the state of Maine. Night in Kennebunkport at Best Western Merry Manor Inn (or similar).
Day 4: Kennebunkport - Bar Harbor (350 km / 3h30)
The State of Maine is famous for its lovely rocky coast along the Atlantic Ocean. You will drive along the Coast and will see the charming towns and small fishing ports where it worthwhile to stop to eat a succulent lobster. Don’t miss out on the chance to visit the oldest lighthouse in the country, the Portland Head Light. Why not take a cruise to observe some of Maine's marine wildlife? Nearby, the Acadia National Park is perfect for hiking and bike riding, but you may also drive through it. Beautiful landscapes and natural wonders (forests with lakes, granite cliffs…) will amaze you. Night in Bar Harbor at Best Western Acadia Park Inn (or similar).

Day 5: Bar Harbor - White Mountains (375 km / 6h)
Today, leave the coast for the countryside and the mountainous landscapes ahead of you. The White Mountains National Park, spread over New Hampshire and Vermont’s states, offer impressive scenery for you to explore. Some of the hills are easily accessible for visitors wishing to hike: the Washington Mount is the most popular and can be reached by a train, a unique experience that we really recommend. Night in Jackson at Eagle Mountain House (or similar).

Day 6: White Mountains - Stowe (210 km / 3h30)
Enjoy some more time in the White Mountains. Take panoramic roads, like Kangamagus Highway or the one passing by Franconia Notch. Drive up to Lyndonville before having a stop at Willey's General Store in Greensboro. This old and authentic store has everything you need and is worth the visit for the local experience. Then it is time head to the town of Stowe where you will spend the night. Night in Stowe at Golden Eagle Resort (or similar).
Day 7: Stowe - Williamstown (250km / 4h)
Today, enjoy a drive accross the Green Mountains, in Vermont State. Discover its beauty and take a swim in one of its 800 lakes like Champlain Lake, the sixth biggest fresh water lake in the United States. take a hike along one of the trails. The 'Long Trail' is the countries oldest long-distance hiking trail. Take a look at the famous Vermont bridges and then make your way back to Massachusett State. Night in Williamstown at The Orchards Hotel (or similar).

Day 8: Williamstown - Newport (315km / 4h15)
Today, head down to the south along the coast and discover Rhode Island, which, despite its small size (the smallest American state), is really charming. Visit the towns of Lenox or Shaker Village, and enjoy the kilometres of coastline and wild beaches. Night in Newport at Holiday Inn Express Newport North – Middletown (or similar).

Day 9 & 10: Newport - Cape Cod (120km / 2h)
Finish your trip in New England by spending two days in Cape Cod. Enjoy the nature and authentic pleasures offered by this relaxing location, situated on the gorgeous coast. Walk alongside vast stretches of white sandy beach, lined by steep cliffs and dunes, before making a stop in small traditional towns and fishing ports. Cape Code has become the favourite destination of Bostonians for their holidays and long week-ends. Nights in Hyannis Harbor Hotel (or similar).

Day 11: Cape Cod - Boston - Departure (160km / 2h30)
Leave Cape Cod for Boston with enough time to drop off your car and take your international flight home.

Car Hire

Please note you cannot be guaranteed a specific make of car within a certain group.
The minimum age for driving a hire car in the United States of America is 21 and drivers must have held a full driving licence for a least 1 year.

The lead name on the booking will be confirmed as the named driver.  The named driver must present a credit card in their name when collecting the car (credit cards in other names will not be accepted).

The named driver must also present a full valid driving licence on collection of the vehicle and in some cases a credit card or cash deposit will be required.

Please ensure that you check your car hire documents carefully once received as this will advise if there are any taxes/charges to be paid locally as well as potential mileage restrictions.

Your Contract

If you book a package which includes flights, your contract will be with Voyage Privé. The air holiday package(s) shown are ATOL protected by the Civil Aviation Authority. Our ATOL number is 10170.

If you book a package which does not include flights, then ATOL protection does not apply. Your contract will be with the provider of the accommodation and not Voyage Privé. Voyage Privé acts only as agent for the accommodation provider.
