Your Time

At the heart of Long Melford, this old Georgian Coaching Inn overlooks the village green. Head out to explore one of the many lovely rambles of the area, or make the 15-minute walk to Kentwell Hall and discover the impressive manor house and parklands open to the public. Within driving distance of Long Melford are the pretty Tudor town of Levenham and historic Bury St Edmonds.

Your Destination

A small market town in rural Suffolk, Long Melford is a treasure trove for visitors looking to meander historic streets, ramble gorgeous countryside, and dip into independent boutiques and antique shops. Check the dates of the monthly Farmer's Market to sample some delicious local fare! Take a stroll through the 8-hectare Long Melford Park before seeking out a hearty Sunday Roast, or head out to one of the nearby country estates, Kentwell Hall or The National Trust's Melford Hall.  The area is known for Tudor architecture with Kentwell Hall's impressive manor house and parkland to roam, while pretty Lavenham and its pastel-coloured half-timbered houses are within a short drive away. Sudbury is home to Friar's Meadow - the perfect picnic spot by a river - and the town boasts the National Centre for Gainsborough, the largest art gallery in Suffolk showcasing the famous works of the celebrated British artist.

Suffolk has many offerings for those looking for a peaceful retreat to the countryside or a deep dive into beautiful examples of historic architecture. Bury St Edmonds is worth a visit with its Abbey Gardens, a favourite among history buffs, or soak up some culture at Britain's only surviving Regency playhouse, the Theatre Royal
