Location —
Alderney provides warm and welcoming surroundings, a peaceful escape from modern life, all year round, where the familiarity of England is combined with a dash of French style. Although just three miles long by one-and-a-half miles wide, Alderney is the third largest of the Channel Islands. It would be difficult to imagine what a small island such as Alderney could offer its visitors. However, Alderney is bursting with activities and history which is bound to delight any visitor to the island.
Providing the perfect conditions for 'winged' wildlife, the island of Alderney is a haven for bird watchers. The Alderney Wildlife Trust and other local operators run boats trips to Les Etacs, a rocky outcrop that is home to 11,000 northern gannets, and Burhou, where you can see Atlantic puffins and other seabirds.
Alderney is steeped in history and visitors can expect an intriguing mix of Roman, Napoleonic and German architecture. Take a visit to the Alderney Museum which displays a record of the island's fascinating history. The museum’s collections are concerned exclusively with Alderney, and cover geology, archaeology, the natural environment and social history.
If active pursuits are your thing, Alderney provides plenty of opportunities for activities such as fishing, sailing and cycling.
If you prefer to spend your days relaxing on fantastic beaches and enjoying wonderful scenic walks, Alderney will not disappoint!
