Your destinations

Tanzania

Tanzania offers a wealth of natural beauty and captivating wildlife, providing a remarkable backdrop for those seeking the ultimate safari experience. From the soaring peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro to the pristine beaches of Zanzibar, this East African gem showcases diverse landscapes and abundant wildlife, making it a must-visit for any adventurous traveller.

Must-sees:

  • Serengeti National Park: Famous for the Great Migration, this park provides one of the most iconic wildlife experiences.
  • Ngorongoro Crater: A UNESCO World Heritage site, it is a natural wonder, home to a rich ecosystem and diverse species.
  • Tarangire National Park: Known for its stunning baobab trees and elephant herds, this lesser-known gem is a peaceful retreat from the more crowded parks.

Culinary culture:

Tanzanian cuisine reflects the country’s diverse heritage, blending African, Indian, and Arab influences. Ugali, a staple made from maize, is often served with rich stews or grilled fish from the Indian Ocean. Street food such as samosas and mandazi (sweet fried dough) offer delightful local snacks. The coastal areas offer fresh seafood, with spicy coconut dishes adding an exotic twist to the flavours.

Dive deeper:

Beyond the safari, immerse yourself in Tanzanian culture. The Zanzibar Archipelago is renowned for its history, where influences from Arab, Indian, and Portuguese settlers can be explored in the narrow streets of Stone Town. The island is also famed for its spice plantations, which offer guided tours where you can learn about the island’s aromatic produce. The Maasai people, one of Tanzania’s indigenous tribes, offer an authentic cultural experience, with their traditional dances, crafts, and vibrant attire.

Good to know:

The Tanzanian Shilling (TZS) is the local currency, though US dollars are widely accepted. The best time to visit is during the dry season, from June to October, when wildlife sightings are at their peak. Zanzibar is a year-round destination, but the coastal areas may see more rain during the long rains (March to May). Flights to Tanzania typically land at Dar es Salaam or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

Kenya

A land of untamed wilderness, striking landscapes, and vibrant cultures, Kenya is the beating heart of East Africa. From the sweeping savannahs of the Maasai Mara to the shimmering coastline of the Indian Ocean, this diverse country offers an unforgettable blend of adventure and relaxation. Whether you're spotting the Big Five on safari, trekking through lush highlands, or soaking up Swahili history on the coast, Kenya’s magic is impossible to resist.

Must-sees:

  • The Great Migration: Witness thousands of wildebeest thunder across the Maasai Mara between July and October.
  • Amboseli’s elephants: Marvel at herds of majestic elephants with snow-capped Kilimanjaro as a backdrop.
  • Lamu Old Town: Step back in time in this atmospheric Swahili settlement with its labyrinthine alleys and dhow-lined shores.
  • Lake Nakuru: See flocks of pink flamingos shimmering on the lake, along with rhinos and baboons.
  • Diani Beach: Sink your toes into the powdery white sand of this idyllic coastal retreat.

Culinary culture:
Kenyan cuisine is a delicious fusion of African, Indian, and Arabic influences. Indulge in nyama choma (grilled meat) with a side of ugali (a maize-based staple) or savour a fragrant plate of Swahili pilau along the coast. Don't miss a cup of freshly brewed Kenyan coffee or a steaming mug of chai, both an essential part of daily life.

Dive deeper:
Beyond the famous safari parks, Kenya’s cultural scene is equally compelling. Visit Kisii for traditional soapstone carvings, or experience the vibrant rhythms of benga music in Nairobi’s nightlife spots. For a glimpse of ancient customs, spend time with the Samburu, whose traditions echo those of their Maasai cousins but with a unique twist.

Good to know:

Kenya’s dry seasons (June–October & January–February) are best for wildlife spotting. The local currency is the Kenyan Shilling (KES), and while English and Swahili are widely spoken, learning a few Swahili phrases will earn you warm smiles.
