king, Parakrama Bahu (1153 - 1186) who symbolizes both the rebirth of Sinhalese civilization born in Anuradhapura and its last fires. See the royal palace, the Temple of Shiva, and the group of Buddhist temples with the Vatadage (the circular chamber of relics), the rock site of Gal Viharae and its three statues of Buddha.
(Optional: explore the site by bike, 5.00 EUR per person)
Leave for Medirigiriya, a site dating from the second century and little known to tourists. This place is remarkable for its vatadage, which evokes that of Polonnaruwa. It has carved pillars (68 in total), a stone balustrade, and Buddhas meditating surrounding the dome. Nearby, you can see the remains of an old hospital. After the visit, return to the hotel in Giritale.

Leave for Dambulla, where you’ll see the largest wholesale fruit and vegetable market in Sri Lanka, with produce harvested from across the country.
Continue to Matalae, where you’ll go to a spice garden at the gates of the old capital Kandy. Long before the tea plantations were cultivated, Sri Lanka was renowned for its spices, and you’ll learn all about them during your tour.

Visit a tea plantation and factory, where you’ll learn about the different processes in making tea.

Continue to Tissamaharama and settle into your hotel. In the afternoon, visit Yala National Park. It houses one of the densest leopard populations in the world, but due to their dwindling numbers, there are only fifty in this region. Yala is also home to elephants, sloth bears, sambar deer and spotted deer, wild boar, crocodiles, monkeys and buffaloes, as well as a wide variety of different birds.
