We discover this archaeological site founded in the twelfth century, the work of a single king, Parakrama Bahu (1153 - 1186) which symbolizes both the rebirth of the Sinhalese civilization born in Anuradhapura and its last fires - at the end of the 12th century , the monarchy sinks into a long decline against the raids of the Malaysian pirates and the wars between pretenders to the throne. We discover the royal palace, the Shiva temple and the group of Buddhist temples where the Vatadage (the circular chamber of the relics), the Gal Viharae rock site and its three Buddha statues are located. Return to Habarana for dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
After breakfast transfer to Dambulla. You will visit the rock monastery of Dambulla . The caves are dugin a huge block of granite perched at over 160 m altitude. The set includes five rock temples. The walls of the first were covered with gold leaf, which earned him to be called "the golden rock". In these five"caves" are hundreds of Buddha statues , as well as frescoes, which cover about 1,800 square meters, depicting effigies or episodes of Buddha's life. Then continue to Matale and visit a spice garden in Matale at the gateway to the old capital of Kandy. It is today the cultural and spiritual core of Sri Lanka, it was registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988 . Visit Dalada Maligawa the most famous of Kandy also called Temple of the Tooth of Buddha because of the relic that he keeps preciously. During the daily ritual of worship of this relic, you will be fascinated by the intense fervor of pilgrims laden with fragrant flowers and various offerings and there after visit the botanical gardens of Peradeniya, in the suburbs of Kandy. These gardens are the largest in Sri Lanka and surely among the most beautiful in the world. No, the real joy of Kandy is the illusion that – at least in spirit – a great kingdom survives. Kandyans are always dressing up in their 30ft cummerbunds, and every night there’s a display of drummers in silver armour.
After breakfast visit a batik workshop (traditional textile) to know this craftsmanship, then you proceed to Nuwara Eliya and its expanses of tea plantations as far as the eye can see. After a stop at Ramboda Falls, your road will continue towards Nuwara Eliya through a sumptuous mountain landscape. Visit a tea plantation and a factory where you will be explained the different processes of making tea. Despite a limited surface area, Sri Lanka is now among the top 3 tea producers of tea exports behind China and India .
