Arrival at Colombo International Airport.
Here, you will be met by a designated chauffeur guide. After the formalities at the airport, you will be escorted to your air-conditioned vehicle and proceed to Dambulla.
(Approx Travel Time - 3 to 4 Hours)
On arrival, check in to the hotel and enjoy free leisure time.

DAY 2 DAMBULLA/SIGIRIYA/MINNERIYA/DAMBULLA
After breakfast, you will leave for the Sigiriya Rock Fortress where you can climb a total 1200 steps and admire fabulous frescoes on the walls of this ancient rock fortress (Approx Transfer time: 20 min drive). The Sigiriya Rock Fortress is known as the 8th wonder of the world. This rock fortress was built by King Kasyapa in the 5th century A.D. and was a royal citadel for more than 18 years. The summit of the rock, with an area of nearly one hectare, was the site of the palace and the outer wall was built on the very brink of the precipice. The UNESCO sponsored Central Cultural Fund has restored Sigiriya 5th century water gardens to their former glory.
Located between Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa, Minneriya is yet another haven for the elephants that migrate from surrounding jungles to enjoy the lush grass fields on the banks of the Minneriya reservoir, during the dry season. Here, reports of elephant sightings range from an impressive 100 to 200. Endemic monkeys, as well as many resident and migratory bird species, also can be spotted along with reptiles such as the painted-lip lizard. Among the reptiles that dwell here, are the saltwater crocodile, the Indian python and the water monitor. The central feature of the park is the ancient Minneriya Tank (built in 3rd century AD by King Mahasena). This tank is generally known as a place for elephant observation, watching the animals that come to bathe and graze on the grasses as well as the huge flocks of birds (cormorants and painted storks to name but a few) that come to fish in the shallow waters.
Return to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure, enjoying the hotel amenities.

After breakfast at the hotel, you will proceed to the Dambulla Cave Temple, (Approx Transfer time: 20 min drive).
The Dambulla Cave Temple is a vast isolated rock mass and it was here that king Valagambahu took refuge in the 01st century B.C. when fleeing from his enemies. He later turned the caves into a rock temple. The Golden Temple of Dambulla has been the centre of pilgrimage for Buddhists and Hindus alike for 22 centuries. It is Sri Lanka’s most popular historic site. The Cave monastery, home to Buddhist monks is covered with exquisite 2,000-year-old murals depicting the life and times of the Lord Buddha. The shrines also house a collection of 157 statues of Buddha in various sizes and poses, including a 15 meter long reclining Buddha and vividly coloured frescoes on the walls and ceiling, making this the largest antique painted surface in the world.
Later in the day, you will return to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure, enjoying the hotel amenities.

After breakfast, you will check out of the hotel and proceed to Pasikuda for a charming beach stay. En-route, you will stop for a sightseeing tour around Polonnaruwa (Approx Travel Time -01½ - 02 hrs drive).
Polonnaruwa was established as the capital by King Vijayabahu I after Anuradhapura had been invaded in the late 10th century. However, it was under King Parakramabu I, who ruled in the late 11th century, that Polonnaruwa became a magnificent walled city. He built the vast reservoir, Parakrama Samudra (the Sea of Parakrama) which is still in use today, and ordered the construction of monasteries, temples, palaces, bathing pools and Buddhist statues, all set in a forested park surrounded by moats. During his period of rule, it is said that Sri Lanka was known as the Granary of the East.
On completion proceed to Passikudah (Approx Travel Time 01½ - 02 hrs drive)

Following breakfast at the hotel, spend the rest of the day at leisure by beach or pool, enjoying the hotel's facilities. Known to have one of the longest stretches of shallow coastline in the world, the coastal community of Passikudah is about 35km Northwest of Batticaloa. The resort, which is on the east side of the island, is about five hours away from Colombo by road. But what draws tourists to this location that fact that it is one of the safest and calmest stretches of coastline in the east. The reef here is home to lovely coral formations and fish, with dotted palmyrah trees with sand so soft it almost disappears in your hands.

Maduru Oya National Park is located in the Dry zone and is 314km away from Colombo. The park was established as a catchment area for the five reservoirs under the Mahaweli project and provides habitats for wildlife, inclusive of elephants. It was declared a national park in 1983 under the Flora and Fauna Protection Ordinance. Other than elephants, leopards, sloth bears, samburs, spotted and barking deer, wild boar and wild buffalo are also found here. Passikudah / Maduru Oya National Park - ( Approx Travel Time - 02 - 02½ hrs drive)
Lankapatuna Samudragiri Viharaya
Lankapatuna Samudragiri Viharaya at Trincomalee is said to be the exact location where the Prince Dantha and Princess Hemamala landed in Sri Lanka with the tooth relic of the Buddha. This is one of most ancient temples in Trincomalee. Buddhist ruins scatter an area of about 50 acres which belongs to the temple.
