Stellenbosch & Cape Winelands

With hundreds of wine farms to discover and wines to taste,award-winning restaurants on every corner and wonderful scenery, the Cape Winelands is South Africa’s equivalent of Provence in southern France.
Hermanus 
Whether you're after a peaceful and calm stay or a nature-filled adventure, Hermanus is a must-see destination on your tour of South Africa and its winelands. Hermanus is a charming seaside town popular for its natural beauty and breathtaking whale-watching. Stop by the Old Harbour Museum and get to know the area’s rich fishing history. With dozens of area vineyards, Hermanus is a great base for a guided wine tasting tour. Embark on the Hermanus Wine Route to discover up to fifteen world-class wineries, such as Jakob's Vineyard, Ashbourne, and Whalehaven. 

Drawing visitors from near and far, Hermanus has gained global recognition as one of the most exciting whale watching venues in the world. Each year between June and October, Southern Right Whales migrate into the coastal waters to calve and nurse their young. Set out on a whale-watching tour for an unforgettable experience and witness some of nature's most mysterious and magical creatures. 

The more adventurous-at-heart travelers can find a wide variety of adventure activities such as river rafting, tubing, zip lining, and quad biking.   

Your Itinerary

 Day 1: Arrive into Cape Town – Cape Winelands
Once you arrive in Cape Town International Airport you will be free to pick up the rental car and drive to the Cape Winelands for your first chance to participate in some wine tasting and exploration (tasting not included). The Cape Winelands boasts some of the most majestic scenery in South Africa and offers a beautiful landscape of wine hills and mountains.

You will enjoy 2 nights’ accommodation in the Cape Winelands on Bed & Breakfast basis.Travelling distance: approx. 35 km, driving time approx. 40 min.

Day 2: Exploring the Winelands
Enjoy a day exploring all that the Cape Winelands has to offer, from the fine wine tasting to the Delvera "village". This peaceful location a great place to visit for a relaxing and leisurely wander around the farm, or to simply enjoy the striking views. 

Day 3: Winelands via Franschhoek Pass to Hermanus
Depart from the Winelands and embark via Franschhoek and the magnificent Franschhoek Pass towards the quaint seaside village of Hermanus. A tour on the “Wine Tram” in Franschhoek is a great way to explore some outstanding wine estates in the Franschhoek Winelands (not included). Once in Hermanus, you may enjoy the rest of your day at your leisure. 

You will enjoy 2 nights’ accommodation in Hermanus on Bed & Breakfast basis. Travelling distance: approx. 140 km, driving time approx. 2 hours

Day 4: Hermanus 
While in Hermanus, you can spend the day looking out for its most famous residents - whales! Look out for whales from the coastline or partake in a whale watching boat cruise (not included). Visit the windswept beaches of Hermanus, including Grotto Beach, which has been awarded Blue Flag status. For those seeking a few more thrills, you are able to book a shark cage diving experience (not included) for an eye-to-eye encounter with a Great White Shark. 

Day 5: Hermanus – Explore Cape Town 
Travel along the splendid coastal road to Cape Town, the “Mother City” of South Africa. The best way to explore the Cape Town City Centre and its surroundings is on foot and on a guided sightseeing tour.  Why not try a Hop-on-Hop-off City Sightseeing tour where you will see the real Cape Town in all of its natural beauty.. A sunset champagne cruise through the Table Bay is certainly the best way to see the fabulous Table Mountain and city skyline while the sun languidly dips into the sea at sunset.

You will enjoy 5 nights’ accommodation in Cape Town on Bed & Breakfast basis. Travelling distance: approx. 140 km, driving time approx. 2 ½ hour

Day 6-9: Explore the Cape Town City & Surroundings
The next three days of your tour can be taken at your own leisure.  This is your chance to explore Cape Town, also known as the “Mother City”. With a crisp glass of Riesling, take in the glorious vies of the famous V&A Waterfront. Here, the buzz of the harbour is a lovely accompaniment to world class restaurants, shopping, and so much more. 

You are able to explore Cape Town attractions at your own pace on a Hop-On Hop-Off Sightseeing Tour. Conducted aboard a fire engine-red, double-decker bus, the open-air guided tours traverse the city centre and beyond.  The two main scenic routes include a heritage-rich city centre route (red route), and a breathtakingly beautiful mini-peninsula route (blue route). Riders are free to hop off the open-top bus at each stopping point to explore attractions at your own pace. Depending on the circuit, buses arrive at each stop every 20 to 35 minutes, so once you’ve taken in the view from Table Mountain, had your fill of beautiful people on Camps Bay beach, or tasted some of the outstanding wines in the Constantia Valley, you can simply board the bus again and carry on to your next destination. Each guided bus tour includes insightful about the city, its history and its culture, and run 7 days a week, 365 days a year (rain or shine. You will start and end at the V&A Waterfront.

Alternatively, you may spend the day exploring Cape Peninsula and visit the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, a nature lover’s paradise with breath-taking ocean views. Here you will meet some of Cape Town’s wildlife, including baboons, zebras and ostriches.  Be sure to visit Boulder's Beach with its penguins and the beautifully bloom-filled Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. 


Day 10: Depart from Cape Town 
Spend the last hours of your journey strolling along the famous V&A Waterfront for a final glimpse at Capetown. Visit the Two Oceans Aquarium or book a tour to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, both a South African National Heritage Site as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  You will depart from Cape Town International Airport with lasting memories of your unforgettable tour through South Africa and its winelands.

The minimum age for driving a hire car in South Africa is 21 and drivers must have held a full driving licence for a least 1 year.

• Rental Car: AVIS GROUP C on Premium Cover – Toyota Corolla or similar for the entire journey as per itinerary; Premium Cover includes PAI – Personal Accident Insurance, GPS, Tyre and Windscreen Damage Waiver, 1 Additional Driver.  Credit card deposit of an estimated R2, 500.00 (subject to change) per car rental: used for refuel charges, traffic fine claim handling fees etc. Contract fee of ZAR 79.

The lead name on the booking will be confirmed as the named driver.  The named driver must present a credit card in their name when collecting the car (credit cards in other names will not be accepted).
