Covering a great part of the south-western coast of South Africa, the Garden Route stretches from Mossel Bay to the Tsitsikamma Forest and Storms River. The Garden Route is a coastal corridor along the highway N2, where ancient forests, rivers, wetlands, dunes, stretches of beach, lakes, mountain scenery and indigenous fynbos all merge to form a landscape of restorative beauty.
A spectacular scenery, a wide range of leisure options and a mild climate guarantee make up for today’s long driving distance. By late afternoon you will arrive at Plettenberg Bay, a beautiful beach village which has gained somewhat of a reputation as a pleasure seeker hotspot and has many leisure activities on offer. “Plett” - as South Africans simply call this exclusive seaside resort - boasts the most beautiful beaches of the Garden Route. Today’s journey takes you along the breath-taking Route 62 to the Cape Winelands. The Route 62, modelled after the iconic US Route 66, is one of the most beautiful travel routes in South Africa as well as one of the least known and least travelled ones. The scenic country route meanders through the fertile valleys of the Klein Karoo, past rugged rock formations, the tops of which are covered in snow in winter. Time and again the road leads over steeppasses, which open up to spectacular views of the wide land. Route 62 leads through the wine-growing areas of Wellington, Tulbagh, Worcester, Robertson and the Klein Karoo and is thus one of the longest wine routes in the world. Robertson is your ideal stop to visit one of the beautiful wine estates or stop for a late lunch.
By late afternoon you will arrive in the Cape Winelands, origin of some of the world's most popular wines and a destination of ultimate indulgence and relaxation just north of Cape Town.
The fertile green valleys of the Cape Winelands are surrounded by stunning mountain ranges that provide a breathtaking view.
