Straddling the River Douro just a few kilometres inland from the Atlantic, Porto, in the country's northwest, is closer to Spanish Galicia than it is to Lisbon. Porto possesses an appealing pan-Iberian atmosphere to complement its many historic charms. Porto's historic centre is the Ribeira district, full of UNESCO World Heritage sites and monuments. Old churches and staircases peer around every corner, and the friendly, inviting locals make discovering this fascinating city a pleasurable experience.

Your Itinerary —
Day 1: Arrival in Porto
Upon arrival at Porto airport, pick up your car and proceed to your hotel.
Overnight at the Cristal Porto Hotel 4* in a Superior Room with breakfast included.
After breakfast at your hotel, start this day discovering Porto, a city with dozens of charms and surprises to be discovered at every corner. Explore this UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and then embark on the guided boat trip that involves the six magnificent bridges connecting the sides of the Douro River. Enjoy your time and get to know the D. Luis, the Infante, Dona Maria, Arrábida and the Freixo. Your sightseeing will allow you to enjoy the views of the historical Zona Ribeirinha, the famous Palacio da Bolsa (the Stock Palace), the Palacio de Cristal (the Cristal Palace), among others. After, enjoy a wine tasting at Porto Cruz Terrace.

The two most important settlements ont he Douro River are Régua and Pinhão, just 20 km from one another. Régua is considered the commercial capital of the Douro Valley and offers excellent dining opportunities and the Douro Museum, a great introduction to the region. From here on you can make your way upstream, either by car, train, or boat.
About 12 km south of Régua lies Lamego, considered the cultural capital of the region. It has several interesting monuments, the most spectacular being the cathedral and the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios. Here you can also find the 10th-century Chapel of St. Peter of Balsemão. To the north of Régua is the only city in the region, Vila Real. This area is home to Casa de Mateus, a famous bottle by the Mateus Rosé brand. If you head further upstream you will meet the Côa Valley, described as the largest outdoor site of Côa Valley. In the evening, return to your hotel.

Day 5: Douro - Porto Airport
Drop your car at Porto airport and embark for your return flight to the UK.
