Whether you're watching the sunrise creep up Pico's perfect cone, tearing around a crater lake on a mountain bike or holding your breath as a whale surfaces from the deep blue, the Azores, with their rumbling mass of beauty, are surely one of Europe's last great island adventures.

Pico: All you see is that whopper of a volcano: a perfectly symmetrical cone thrusting above the deep blue Atlantic, its summit often wreathed in mist. Montanha do Pico is the first (and last) thing you see whether arriving by boat or plane. It is here on Pico that you can wander through Unesco-listed volcanic vineyards on the 10.5km Caminhos de Santa Luzia and descend into the half light of the 5km Gruta das Torres, one of the world's longest lava tubes.
Faial: Prepare for that moment of silent exhilaration as you first glimpse a whale: perhaps the blowhole of a migrating blue or humpback, or the smooth, torpedo-like form of a surfacing sperm whale, most commonly sighted in Azorean waters.

São Miguel: São Miguel packs the best bits of the Azores into one enticingly volcanic bundle. The southern capital Ponta Delgada, is a graceful black-and-white affair, with mosaic cobbled streets meandering down to a marina lined with fish restaurants. When the fog peels back from Mirador do Rei lookout, the view of Sete Cidades is simply staggering.

Local lore has it that the twin crater lakes were formed by the tears shed by a pair of star-crossed lovers: a green-eyed princess and a blue-eyed shepherd. High on your itinerary, too, should be a dip in the pool at Caldeira Velha waterfall, a hike in the Lagoa de Fogo nature reserve and a visit to the time-warp that is Gorreana, Europe's only tea plantation, little-changed since it opened in 1883.

Guests can enjoy a daily buffet breakfast at the restaurant of the hotel, or discover the many cafés that surround the property, serving typical Azorean specialities. The in-house bar offers soft drinks and the renowned Pico Wine.

The air-conditioned Standard Rooms at Hotel Caravelas open out onto private balconies. All rooms include a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, a minibar, and an en suite bathroom.

Flights: The flights included are with either a scheduled or no frills airline and are subject to live availability and prices can change. You can choose your preferred departure times during the booking process. Please select your flight options carefully as departure and arrival airports may differ.

Checked baggage: 20 kg per adult and 10 kg per children.

Transfers: transfers are not included in this offer. The time/distance between airport and hotel is approximately 7min/7km.

Meet & Greet —

If you are driving to the airport in the UK, and book our package including flights, you may wish to add our Meet and Greet service. Take the hassle out of airport parking and have an official representative take your car on arrival, and it will be waiting for you on your return.

Car Hire —

Please note you cannot be guaranteed a specific make of car within a certain group.

The minimum age for driving a hire car in COUNTRY is 21 and drivers must have held a full driving licence for a least 1 year. You must present a full valid driving licence on collection of the vehicle and in some cases a credit card or cash deposit.

Please ensure that you check your car hire documents carefully once received as this will advise if there are any taxes/charges to be paid locally as well as potential mileage restrictions.

Your Contract —

If you book a package which includes flights, your contract will be with Voyage Privé. The air holiday package(s) shown are ATOL protected by the Civil Aviation Authority. Our ATOL number is 10170.

If you book a package which does not include flights, then ATOL protection does not apply. Your contract will be with the provider of the accommodation and not Voyage Privé. Voyage Privé acts only as agent for the accommodation provider.

The airline is ticketless and therefore, you will not receive any hard copy documents. You will however, receive an email from us detailing your flight information and reference number to enable you to manage your booking online via the airline website.

You will also receive an accommodation voucher for presentation at the hotel reception at point of check-in.

If you have booked transfers, Meet & Greet, car hire or airport lounges, you will receive a separate voucher for each of these services. Please note that transfer vouchers are sent directly from the transfer supplier.
