Vila Real Region
The fertile banks of the Tramega River give rise to olive groves, vineyards and orchards. If you are a wine connoisseur (or indeed a novice drinker!) you should certainly make a trip to a local winery (the hotel can happily organise this) where you can try the delicious locally grown varieties.

- Guimaraes (1 hour away) - This well-preserved Medieval town looks like it has stepped straight out of a fairytale. This is the birthplace of Portugal's first independent king, a fact which the locals are very proud of. Spend a day exploring a maze of lanes which lead to picturesque plazas where quaint taverns sell local treats.
- Alvaro National Park (20 minutes away) - A visit to this pretty part of Portugal will reveal pine scented valleys and the Fisgas de Ermelo waterfalls. For the more adventurous and active you can try your hand at paragliding, mountain biking or hiking in the area.
Beiras Region
While this region's highlight is undoubtedly its breathtaking views, the fact that its largely unspoilt by tourist is a close second.

- Coimbra (1 hour away) - This river-front town is notable for its varied history juxtaposed by its lively bar scene. This city is simply romantic, it's not uncommon to hear traditional fado songs reverberating throughout the old town during the summer months!
- Aveiro (2 hours away) - Many places are described as 'The Venice of...' but this town has certainly earned it! This is a town where canals criss-cross colourful houses, where vividly designed boats compete with each other, each one more colourful than the next. In fact, this vibrant town's name is thought to originate from the Latin word for 'place of birds'...and the sight definitely does remind one of an aviary!
Silver Coast
With the Atlantic on its doorstep, the Silver Coast is the place to come for seafood – enjoy a delicious lunch at the local restaurants serving fresh and mouthwatering seafood dishes. The wines are great too - ranging from drinkable, inexpensive table wine to one of Portugal’s rarest and most expensive labels.

- Obidos (10 minutes away) - This classic fortified town is overflowing with Portuguese charm: think traditional white houses streaked with primary colours, ancient churches adorned with quintessential blue & white tiles and flowers which spill out over cobbled streets which twist their way the hill. All this is presided over by a Medieval castle with a Moorish design.
- Alcobaça (30 minutes away) - At first this town may seem like nothing special but it has a secret weapon: a spellbinding 12-century monastery. This is considered one of Portugal's more memorable UNESCO World Heritage Sites, mainly thanks to its immaculately carved facade.

Day 1: Arrive in Porto & pick up your car from the airport. Drive to Agua Hotel Mondim De Basto.
Day 2: Visit Guimaraes (1 hour away), then return to your hotel.
Day 3: Drive to Aguahotels Nelas Parq, visiting Aveiro en-route (2 hours away).
Day 4: Visit Coimbra (1 hour away), then return to your hotel.
