Funchal —
Home to awe-inspiring landscapes, vineyards, tropical forests and a rugged coastline, it's easy to see why the volcanic island of Madeira is often referred to as the 'Garden Isle'. Situated in the Atlantic Ocean, with breathtaking scenery that wouldn’t seem amiss in a Jurassic Park film, Madeira is a fabulous year-round destination that promises a whole host of excursions alongside a temperate climate.
In terms of top attractions, tourist favourites include the charming Funchal Cable Car, which offers guests panoramic views of the ocean, mountainside and houses. The astounding Monte Palace Tropical Garden is where guests can revel in the beauty of the Japanese pagoda or explore the manicured grounds around the former hotel. Finally, no trip to Madeira is complete without an exciting boat trip, as the island is home to plenty of companies that specialise in running sealife tours - allowing you the chance to see everything from bottlenose dolphins to pilot whales in their natural habitat.
