Your Itinerary —
Day 1: Arrival in Marrakesh
Upon arrival in Marrakesh you will be greeted by your driver and transferred to your riad.
Depending on when you arrive you will be taken on a romantic tour of Marrakech by night in horse drawn carriage through the old medina and royal palace to the main Djemaa El fnaa. You could also join the chefs de cuisine Dada & Saida in Riad Zaid for a cooking course to prepare her tasty delicacies, or if you feel tired after a long day of travelling to Marrakesh, you could join Hammam Amal for a relaxing Moroccan hammam and body scrub.
If you are arriving on a late flight your activities will be arranged over the next two days.
After Berber breakfast on the terrace, depart on your tour of Marrakesh. Go back in time and join a small group to discover some of Marrakesh's historical landmarks. Your knowledgeable guide enlightens you on the intrigue surrounding the city’s illustrious buildings. The first stop will be the ‘souika’ fruit & vegetable souk, and the traditional baker’s oven, where you can shop alongside the locals.
Visit the 14th century Ben Youssef Medersa, one of the most beautiful buildings in Marrakesh – with its subtle use of decoration, achieved through a balanced combination of stucco & mosaic, marble and cedar wood, white marble basin & pillars.
Then there's a short stop in the Café des Epices, on a quaint terrace where you can soak up the atmosphere of the market. Continue to peruse the craftsmen’s souk (potters, iron mongers, carpenters & wood dyers) before arriving in the foundoul "sersar".
Afterwards, you will have some free time at Djemaa El fnaa Square before heading to a nearby spa for a traditional Moroccan hammam & body scrub.
Dinner at the Riad
After breakfast depart for the High Atlas, travelling through Morocco’s majestic countryside offers a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech, and a rare glimpse into a more relaxed way of life in this magical part of the world. Along the way there will be photo stops for panoramic views of the Sour Tahennaout village.
Then onto the village of Moulay Brahim, where you will be invited into the home of Hassan Ouali and his family, opening their door to how they live in the region. They will be delighted to share with you their Berber lunch and the ceremonial mint tea, prepared with great care.
After lunch, leave Moulay Brahim to return to Marrakech but via the Kik Plateau, dominated by the High Atlas chain, its summits culminated reach 4000 metres. Magnificent panoramic views of the Mount Toubkal massif. The Berber houses are perched on mountainous terraces, blending into the countryside. Then, a splendid view of the Lake Lalla Takerkoust.
Return to the riad for another of Dada Najma’s delicacies.
Day 4: Marrakech at leisure & mix with the evening locals
After breakfast in the riad, you will be taken to the Oasiria Aqua Park for the day where you can wile away the day swimming & sunbathing at this vast water park.
Return to the riad for dinner, then at 9pm, your horse & carriage will pick you up to go to the Djemaa El Fnaa Square. Afterwards, return to the riad OR go for an after-dinner drink in the trendy Gossip Cabaret, or to the medina at the Kosy Bar (drinks not included – make own way back to riad).
Day 5: Marrakech & the art of haggling & cooking
Rendezvous at 11am with Dadas Najma & Saida, to go shopping in the souk (you will learn how to haggle, so take your time) because she will be choosing each ingredients very carefully. Return to the riad to prepare your lunch, learn some of her secrets of how to make a tagine or couscous. The afternoon is free & dinner will be served at the riad.
Day 6: Departure
Breakfast in the riad & transfer to Marrakech airport in time for your flight.
Riad Zaid —
You will be spending 5 or 7 nights in a Double / Twin Room on a half board basis (Breakfast and evening meal served in the main restaurant - excludes drinks)
Just for you: Welcome mint tea & Moroccan pastries; Complimentary Hammam & body scrub at a nearby spa; Cooking class
This house boasts a unique example of Moroccan craftsmanship – with its lion’s head mosaic fountain, hand painted ceilings, colourful lamps, stucco decor and design. The cool “Z” Moroccan lounge offers fine dining on request. The five rooms are beautifully decorated, all with air-conditioning, TV, wi-fi, private bathroom with shower and all on the first floor. A true blend of tradition with modern fittings!
There is a large, sunny terrace to enjoy a typical Berber breakfast at Dada Najma’s Kitchen, or some of the best homemade tagines and cous cous in Marrakech.
