Day 2: Marrakech – Kik Plateau – Amizmiz - Azgour
After breakfast will be an exceptional tour to the south side of the High Atlas plateaux and Lake Takerkoust, with remarkable green lands surrounded by olive, fig, walnut trees, quince, prune & almond plantations. At an altitude of 1800M, the view is absolutely splendid and in the winter months there is a snow-capped backdrop of the Atlas summit. Refreshment stop in Amizmiz town. After lunch continue the 4x4 ride through a succession of typical villages along Amazigh Anougal Valley. Late in the afternoon arrive to Tnirt Village. Finish your experience by a typical berber cooking class with Said and his family. Dinner and overnight in a riad.
Day 3: Azgour - Imin dounite - Agafay Desert
Your breakfast will be served on an open air terrace. Head down the valley to visit the mining area in Azgour. Enjoy the scenic view of Toulkin plateaux and Ardouz Mountain, which is part of the High Atlas mountain range. Stop here for panoramic photos before continuing on roads that lead you to more remote Berber communities and landscapes. Arrive to the village Adaghas (2,000 m). There have lunch in a cosy auberge. The view is outstanding from here with many high peaks to be seen, including Toubkal, the highest peak of the High Atlas (4,167m. After lunch continue towards Imi-n-dounit village, passing many villages on the way (such as Douzro, Tagadirt, Ighizaran, Ibardaten, Adassil, Mjdid, Maghossa, Irgan warshan).
Depending on the season, many activities can be seen. Perhaps it will be the land being prepared and cultivated in October or the barley harvest taking place in May when busy Berber families (and patient donkeys) cut the brittle stalks by hand, gathering another year’s essential crop, a scene many centuries old. From here a short walk takes you down to a river’s edge to see the “Mouth of the Earth”, a steep sided, water cut gorge. Using stepping stones, pass though this gorge and enter an area of awesome tranquility. After some free time here, leave for Agafay desert. On the way visit the village of Andour. Arrive to Agafay Desert. Dinner and overnight at desert camp.
After breakfast and leaving the Agafay desert, the trak-road dives immediately into the west side of Alhaouz plain, over some small rivers (oueds), the only source of irrigation in the region. Near these traditional irrigation systems, there are underground drains, of Saharan origin. Continue your Safari drive along the arid and semi-desertic back land CHYADMA. In this least dry area, much of the land is covered with thuya, rosemary and other low-water-demand plants, such as argan.
Next, see the open Souk where there are craftsmen, blacksmiths and some antiques. Every day of the week vendors come to display their merchandise. Continue along the Argan forest to the coastal side of the al haouz region. Arrive to SIDI KAOUKI beach. After lunch, take a short stroll to Sidi Mbarek, a small Berber village south of Essaouira. Walk to the little cascade and visit the old Marabout. Here, the convergence of a large sand dune, a small river, and an imposing rock splendidly frames a lovely bay. The stream brings some water (water level depends on the seasons/rain) into this very dry region to irrigate local fields. The landscape offers a rich interplay of green, blue and yellow. Arrive to Essaouira city in the afternoon and check in to your hotel. Afternoon free at leisure to explore Essaouira on your own. Overnight at riad.
After breakfast, be picked up from your hotel and head inland to the countryside surrounding Essaouira. First stop at the Oued Ksob (oued means ‘river’ in local dialect) on the Atlantic coast, & great views of the eucalyptus thuya forest surrounded by sand dunes, a great spot for bird-watching as herons flock here throughout the day. The journey continues to the village of Ain el Hajar, the so-called “Gardens of Essaouira“, a lush, green oasis. You will take a short walk here, before rejoining the road of Sidi Lmokhtar. Lunch on route before returning to Marrakech. Check in to your hotel. Afternoon free at leisure. Overnight at hotel.
