Marrakech is an intriguing city, where you can explore a completely different world of exoticism, from the Jemaa El Fna, to the Menara, to any number of mosques - each uniquely designed and decorated. Visitors of this intoxicating place can also enjoy the largest souk (market place) in Morocco - this really is an experience that needs to be seen to be believed, with hundreds of small stalls selling all manner of objects, from the freshest foods, to beautiful boutiques offering lovely fabrics, pots, and decorations.
The obvious place to start is the Jemaa El Fna Square with its lively and exotic atmosphere packed with stalls, street cafes and even snake charmers! At night the square is lit and the smell of spices wafting through the streets is an experience not to be missed.
The highest mountain range in North Africa, the High Atlas runs diagonally across Morocco, from the Atlantic Coast northeast of Agadir all the way to northern Algeria, a distance of almost 1000km. In Berber it's called Idraren Draren (Mountain of Mountains) and it's not hard to see why.
Flat-roofed, earthen Berber villages cling tenaciously to the valley sides, while irrigated terraced gardens and walnut groves flourish below. Explore the spectacular mountain range running nearly the full length of eastern Morocco, and challenge yourself with a trek to the summit of its highest peak and as your breath returns you'll be rewarded by breathtaking views.
