The Agdal Gardens - A must visit
Created by the painter Jacques Majorelle, the Majorelle Gardens was purchased and restored by Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Bergé in 1980. Expect Cacti, bougainvillaea, bamboo groves and plants from all five continents. The Majorelle Gardens are a refreshing oasis of colour with poetry in the air. The Agdal Gardens stretch for several kilometres south of the Royal Palace – a vast orchard planted with hundreds of olive, orange, apricot and other fruit trees, complemented by a magnificent duo of artificial lakes. Quiet and restful – a true haven of peace just a stone’s throw from the bustle of the city.
The Menara is popular among Marrakchis out for a stroll and there are plenty of people about on Sunday afternoons. In fine weather, you can see the Atlas Mountains in the background, rising behind the summerhouse that once served as a sultan’s trysting place.
