Budva —
Each year, tourism in Montenegro continues to grow as more adventurers discover the stunning beauty, temperate climate, and exceptional landscapes this country has to offer. Nestled along the pristine Adriatic coastline, Budva is a dynamic blend of action-packed excitement, fascinating culture, sun-kissed beaches, and spectacular attractions. Whether you're seeking relaxation or adventure, Budva promises a memorable experience for all.
Must-sees:
- Stari Grad (Budva Old Town): The heart of Budva, Stari Grad is a charming 15th-century citadel that overlooks the bay. After being painstakingly restored following a devastating earthquake in 1979, the town’s architecture now reflects the Roman style of the Venetian Republic. Wander through narrow streets to discover landmarks such as the Church of St. Ivan with its striking Gothic bell tower.
- The Citadel: For panoramic views of the bay and the surrounding coastline, head to the Citadel, a fortress that also hosts cultural events such as theatre performances, art exhibitions, and music festivals throughout the summer months.
- Becici Beach: Just a short distance from the Old Town, the long stretch of golden sand at Becici Beach offers a perfect spot to relax by the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic.
Culinary culture:
Budva offers a delightful selection of traditional Montenegrin dishes that will leave your taste buds wanting more. Try cevapi, small grilled minced meat kebabs, or indulge in black risotto, made with cuttlefish and its ink for an authentic taste of the region. Enjoy fresh seafood caught straight from the Adriatic at the seafront restaurants or sip a glass of local wine while watching the sunset over the horizon. For dessert, don’t miss out on tulumba, a sweet fried dough pastry drenched in syrup.
Dive deeper:
Budva is also home to a vibrant arts and cultural scene, where theatre, music, and art events take place throughout the summer. The town offers a great blend of history and modernity, with a relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere that invites you to explore and unwind. Don't forget to take a boat trip around the bay to experience Budva’s coastline from the sea, discovering hidden coves and secluded beaches.
Good to know:
Budva is well-connected to other Montenegrin destinations, making it an excellent base for exploring the entire Adriatic coastline. The summer months are ideal for enjoying the beaches and festivals, while spring and autumn provide a quieter atmosphere, perfect for sightseeing and hiking.
