Maldives —
The Maldives, a tropical haven in the Indian Ocean, offers an idyllic retreat with its pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and luxurious resorts. Comprising over 2,000 islands, this paradise is renowned for its exclusive resorts and exceptional natural beauty, making it the ultimate getaway for relaxation or adventure.
Must-sees:
- Resort Islands: The epitome of luxury, with exclusive overwater villas and beachfront retreats offering uninterrupted views of the ocean.
- Malé: The bustling capital, where you can experience local culture, vibrant markets, and landmarks like the Maldives Islamic Centre and the Grand Friday Mosque.
- Reefs and Marine Life: Renowned for its vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life, including rays, moray eels, reef sharks, and majestic whale sharks.
Culinary culture:
Maldivian cuisine reflects its coastal culture, with an emphasis on fresh seafood, coconut, and locally grown produce. The country's culinary offerings include grilled fish, mas huni (a traditional breakfast dish), and rich curries. Dining in the Maldives is a memorable experience, with many resorts offering beachside and overwater restaurants, where guests can savour the flavours of the ocean while enjoying stunning views.
Dive deeper:
Beyond lounging on the beaches, the Maldives invites you to immerse yourself in water sports such as snorkelling, scuba diving, and kayaking. Explore the vibrant underwater world with colourful coral reefs, or enjoy a rejuvenating spa treatment that takes full advantage of the island's tranquil atmosphere.
Good to know:
The Maldives enjoys warm temperatures year-round, with the driest months falling between November and April. Travelling outside this peak season may bring occasional short-lived showers, but it also offers greater availability, a more peaceful atmosphere, and excellent value. The Maldives uses the Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR), though US dollars are widely accepted. For a singularly swish experience, enjoy boat or seaplane transfers, ensuring easy access to remote islands.
